Deep thinking aside? I though Donnie made the smurf conversation deep and meaningful...

Hey is it just me or is Donnie Darko not the best movie out there I have to say that this movie has mnade me think more than anything else I was quite astonished that nobody picked up on the fact about the clown suit boy when he was with Frank in the car

If u remeber to around the start of the film when the first engine falls down on Donnie the middle of the Engine has a red clown nose then when Frank runs Gretchen over the passenger in the car is a boy wearing a clown suit

Or the Red bit in the middle of the Engine was there to symbolise the weird guy in the red suit that was kinda creepy

Also Grandma Death knew about everything that was going to happen thats why she kept going to check about the letter that was going to be sent to her by Donnie Darko

Finally did u notice that Donnie was laughing before he died he laughing at how insane the world is and how he went through all of that just for people not to remeber but CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME WOT THE KIDD AT THE END SAYS HE GOES THE BOY NEXT DOOR DIED THEN SOMTHING LIKE IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE CAN SOMEBODY WATCH IT AND TELL ME OR TELL ME WHERE TO VIEW THE SCRIPT ONLINE

until next time............The puzzler

He says 'got smashed/squished by a jet engine'. One of those two.

If one more person mentions Living receivers or manipulated dead I'ma flip, when a person who worked on the film tells you this has been added after the film was made simply to confuse and mislead people its frustrating to see people credit this as fact. A lot of people seem to be basing their opinions around the "facts" picked up from things other than the film, I cant remember his name who posted way back in the middle of this discussion said on about 5 occassions don't be distracted the answer is in the film more specifically the opening of the film. How many of you honestly watched the film and started thinking oh Frank was obviously manipulated dead as was Gretchen oh the jet engine was an artifact and Donnie he totally had telekenesis. All people seem to be doing here is making a confusing film even more confusing. That said I regrettably have come to the conclusion that it was probably designed to be a dream otherwise there would be too many holes in the plot, although I have some ideas spinning around about Frank actually being Donnie (franks handwriting on fridge identical to writing on ground at school + a few other things such as Donnies eyes becomignfully black when a sphere enters him, the eyes gave me impression he was possesed) Another Obscure idea i had was that Frank was God and Donnie was Jesus can't quite remember what basis i had for this.

Ps Having read all pages of discussion it seems everything was discussed to death almost everything except the constant use of Donnie looking to the sky to view planes, ok this was foreshadowing of the end of the film but why did he look so concerned when seeing the planes it wasn't these planes going past that was gonna affect his life. I thought it was interesting that there were entire scenes dedicated to a plane passing above and no one thought enough of it to mention when every other minor detail was discussed in depth.

So er...can someone explain in a couple of sentences what this movie is about?

(hehehe this should be good)

I've just finnishied watching Donnie Darko Director's Cut. And still, Donnie Darko is a beautiful and fantastic movie!

But now .. my question, the homepage www.donniedarko.com , i haven't come any further than two men talking on a telephone and then you can hear a voice saying "time's up".. how do you do to come further?! I've tried in every possible way (that i could come up with) so now you have to help me! I've talked to people before who said it was the last level but it can't be because it says somewhere "wath carefully, you might need this for level 7" (or something like that)

Help me ! :)

27 pages!!!!..wow..all i have to say is donnie darko=medication time........

>>By coca   (Saturday, 19 Mar 2005 01:07)

... but the medication is only sugar pills.

Jena Malone is a hottie, and therapists shouldn't devulge their patients' "secrets"

>>By ftad   (Sunday, 10 Apr 2005 17:06)

exactly...thats why donnie= medication time....

>>By coca   (Sunday, 10 Apr 2005 20:32)

Ok it seems everybody has gone way offtrack can I just say what im about to expose will sort out your Donnie Darko understanding ok here goes

Nowhere in the book does it say that the living reciever has to die and Roberta did not die and neither did Donnie at the end he was laughin because he knew that after all he did no one would ever know he never dies truely in the tangent universe he is in the bed but as the engine comes down if u look carefully Donnie is not in the bed. He somehow survives and you see him riding down the hill into his neighourhood

>>By The puzzler   (Sunday, 1 May 2005 21:24)

the best quote though is when the two teachers are in the staffroom and Noah Kyle says to Drew barrymore "Donnie Darko" and she says inquisitively " I know"

>>By The puzzler   (Sunday, 1 May 2005 21:27)

I have a very weird theory that Donnie's dad could be Frank because when Frank calls Donnie out his dad is nowhere to be seen in the living room, he never frowns upon anyhting Donnie does like telling his teacher to stick a book up her ass or calling his mom a bitch and he is the only member of his family who does not die The mom and little sis die in the plane and the older sis I thought died of alcohol abuse and was dead but when donnie kissed her as he has power over the dimension he brought her back to life with his kiss

>>By The puzzler   (Sunday, 1 May 2005 21:35)

Yaaaaa nooooo, Frank be Frank boyfriend of Donnie's sister. Donnie's sister be sleeping, Donnie not be bring anyone back to life other then his girlfriend (in a sense), Donnie's dad be Donnie's Dad that is all. Thank you come again.

>>By Billy Pilgrim   (Monday, 2 May 2005 04:49)

overrated...

>>By 8drummer8   (Thursday, 12 May 2005 21:44)

Overrated certainly, not the greatest film ever made likme quite a few people on here seem to think, but still brilliant.

>>By Flagg   (Thursday, 12 May 2005 23:04)

Well personally I think that Donnie is laughing at the end because he can hear Frank calling him but he knows now not to go outside and meet him or else it will just continue in a loop all over again

the thing though is that it does because even though Donnie dies there is still the matter that there is still an artifact from the future in the primary universe so that would mean that there would be one plane with two Identical engines in the same plane of existence (excuse the pun)

>>By The puzzler   (Sunday, 10 Jul 2005 00:05)

"Well personally I think that Donnie is laughing at the end because he can hear Frank calling him but he knows now not to go outside and meet him or else it will just continue in a loop all over again"

maybe he's laughing because he foresaw how many posts would be made about the movie on this site

>>By kurn-ell   (Wednesday, 13 Jul 2005 23:55)

UMMMM.....Billy i understood not a word of your post....its definitely not the best movie in the world but its still great. i think hes laughing at the end because he no longer fears death and is welcoming it now as a release to a life he can no longer stand.

>>By Mystic Gohan   (Thursday, 14 Jul 2005 08:01)

i was responding to puzzlers post, i know i didnt use any grammar or sentence structure. basically i was saying Frank isnt donnies dad Frank is the guy in the bunny suit at the party that runs over Donnies girlfriend (forgot her name). The guy who is Donnie's sisters boyfriend. Donnies sister does not die but is simply dieing. The idea that Frank is actually Donnies dad is.. silly to put it as nice as possible.

As for Donnies laughing at the end my guess its because hes a freakin schyzo

>>By Billy Pilgrim   (Friday, 15 Jul 2005 00:11)

maybe he was laughing because he farted

:0)

>>By kurn-ell   (Friday, 15 Jul 2005 04:33)

0bunny0 made some good points. i also believe the whole thing was a dream. did anyone else notice the sign donny passes as he cycles at the beginning of the movie? it has MAD DREAM written on it. i would say that's a big clue right there.

>>By john21   (Thursday, 21 Jul 2005 00:51)

that would be my first guess too, that it was all one gaint schyzophrenic episode/dreamy thingy. but that doesnt explain how in this dream he knew that Frank was well Frank and had the nifty bunny suit and mask and the whole shooting in the eye thing. Theres also the one girl who has an crush on him and the kiddy porn dungeon guy. Doesnt really matter good movie no matter how hard you try and figure it out.

>>By Billy Pilgrim   (Friday, 22 Jul 2005 05:29)

The people that hate donnie darko
are the people that don't understand
it and/or are to ignorant to accept
something that takes a while to figure out

>>By manson_is_sexy   (Sunday, 22 Jan 2006 06:31)

thats true people that dont understand it dont like it...

i had to explain it to two of my bfs since i saw it the first time but they both like it now they get it... its a cleaver film...i loved it

on another note does anybody else find franks voice somewhat inviting? i know its weird but one of the reason i got obsessed with that film is coz franks voice was just so intriging to me. is that just me or does anybody else get that?

>>By spookygoth   (Tuesday, 24 Jan 2006 13:26)

i agree, films where you have to think about it just to understand the story are damn good films, it's a shame some people don't want to think carefully about what they watch. it's a watch-twicer i think and i just watched it again. it's better than i remember it actually.

i don't know what you mean about frank's voice though.

>>By Flagg   (Wednesday, 29 Mar 2006 23:39)

haha well maybe the deal with frank is just a me thing then, i love frank to bits, but im not entirely sure why because i initially from the trailer thought he was scary. Hmm

its still a brilliant film though, definately one of the best in this catagory anyway.

>>By spookygoth   (Thursday, 30 Mar 2006 14:02)

holy shit. i just saw the movie...27 pages? it was disturbing..interesting. inquistive. confusing. liberating. comical....

>>By balloons!!   (Sunday, 9 Apr 2006 08:20)

jes, you people are turning donnie darko into something it isnt, and whats this crap about

"he is in the bed but as the engine comes down if u look carefully Donnie is not in the bed. He somehow survives and you see him riding down the hill into his neighourhood" by The puzzler "

Thats just mental!!! and anyway there is so many plot holes in this movie no one will ever have the answer!!!

>>By zeromenace   (Wednesday, 12 Apr 2006 11:33)

I don't see how people can go on for 27 pages trying to work out what this film's about. It doesn't spell everything out for you but it's not exactly Mullholland Drive either.
