Yeaz let's ignore grammar and spelling. We all have enough of that to worry about without people being so picky on boards. And back off pshawn b.c. hes doing us a great service by informing us. Dude I have to know who was cast....... What role? From what DangerKeri said it doesnt sound like it would be one of the children? What do you guys think?
I'm down with the traditional english type actors but I dont think this should be as anal as with HP. If an american actor or an actor from another place has an english style or studied in england or something like that then I think that should be fine. That could totally cut JS and other good actors that would nail the adult parts and voices. I pretty much think the kids should all be english though b.c. kid actors arent as experienced and having to develop an english style and that accent would be difficult on top of dealing with all the other acting. later gators

Hello people!
I agree- the story should be kept as English as it possibly can- I think the cast can be from mixed bacgrounds, but their accents should be played down. That's only so the essence of the book and the rest of the series isn't lost.
Anyone out there after a conceptual artist for the new film- I'm still a student- but I know the books backwards and have been illustrating the series for a long time. I'm getting my website up and running soon- when I do I'll let you all know!
Cheers!

Hey!
In answer to the questions. Yes JS has a good shot if she gets a reading. I have forwarded a request to my mate so I hope she gets a shot. The casting is on an "if you can fool us your perfect approach". :P just kidding.
The casting is for english type so obviously if they can fake it that's what they call it acting for. I don't know who has been cast. I didn't want to pry to much...It's a long stroy but I'll try to find out.

>>By Pshawn   (Thursday, 16 Oct 2003 09:25)

I agree on the style. Look at lord of the rings. They have a good blend of UK actors but werent anal about it like harry potter and it made for a great mix. A lot of major characters are US actors and they did a good job. The style of lotr is definitely an english style but its not as strong as harry potter. Its all in the style!!! Harry potter has a lot of emphasis on england and the bussiness of being english so I think that having only english actors was a fine choice. The chron. of narnia are different since not so much emphasis is put on England this England that, so I think it should just keep the style English......and etc.......well you read my last post and I'm repeating myself. Anyway I'd like to see your illustrations shel.

I've been following this discussion for several days but just now joined. I am excited to see what happens with casting etc. My almost-ten-year old brother is sending in a video for consideration. It'd be a good chance for him.

>>By Aravwyn   (Saturday, 18 Oct 2003 03:01)

That sounds awesome Aravwyn! Good luck to him.
From what's been said here and what I've heard 2004 is the time for casting except some principles that are picked up on the wayside!
Hey and to everyone who is following the Stover angle on this forum I got an email from her the other day. She has been visiting this site... I felt very honoured! I still have no real idea who she is professionally but she's really nice! :)

>>By Pshawn   (Wednesday, 22 Oct 2003 08:12)

I've missed a good deal of great discussion here. I was on an extended holiday which was well deserved. No computers is a good thing. Thats interesting on the Stover front........ Pshawn. Do you know how many principles they're casting overall? I know youre holding back on us. ;0)

>>By Larry   (Saturday, 25 Oct 2003 08:07)

Sorry Larry, at this stage I don't know how many they are chasing... Most will be just voice actors. I don't know much at the moment. Give it time. I will! But you are right I am holding out on you! Sorry give it time and all will be revealed. I will make this the first port of call to release and info. But please if you have a burning need to know just ask. I will ask If I don't already know... whether or not I get an answer is another question :)

Pshawn,
I owe you a huge appology, I was quite rude last time I posted on these boards. I was wrong to point out two little mistakes and worse to lable you as "phony" because of them.

I must admit, it was out of surprise and shock that I sent you that message - because I've been so surprised that everyone's trusting you at your word and you haven't even named your friend who is involved in the making of the film. I'm not saying I don't believe you, its just I think that information would help if you want everyone to believe you.

Anyway, again, I'm really sorry for being extremely rude at you. If you can ever accept these humble appologies, I'd very much appreciate it.
Blessings,
Pete777

>>By Pete777   (Wednesday, 29 Oct 2003 11:08)

It's all good Pete. I was a bit short with you too! I'm not fed everything about the movies so I can only share it as I get it. I'll validate it as I get it to ensure it's correct. Some of it isn't finalised and is still in planning when I'm told about it and so If I go around telling everyone and it changes, like it has in the past I loose my credibility. Look if you listen to what i say and take it with a grain of salt if it happens it happens and you'll know I tell the truth at the end of the day or you can consider it speculation. Whaterver you decide I'm only trying to help.
Expect a huge update in January after I see my mate again and get an update on progress. Appart from that it'll probibly be a little quiet till then.

>>By Pshawn   (Thursday, 30 Oct 2003 07:29)

Hello everyone!
I was talking to a friend of mine about this message board and part of the White WItch- and I know you're all fired up about Jessica Stover - but she suggested Anjelica Huston (the EVIL STEPMUM from Everafter) and it struck me that it was a really good idea. - She would bring a name to the film and might attract an audience interested in that kind of film. Just a suggestion- and- just so you all don't think I'm some kind of spoilsport- I DO think an un-known is a great idea- Stover would probably have no probs with a career in acting after landing a part like this- and this is from an arts point of view. What do you think?

>>By Shel   (Saturday, 1 Nov 2003 22:41)

Angelica is an awesome evil type! Thats why she was the evil stepmother in Ever After. Thats a similar role and shes played others so I wouldnt like to see her in this film. Also like we dicussed in the past Jadis and the white witch are referred to as a YOUNG woman!!! I guess people thinks witch and they think "old" but its more like the youthful snow queen. She eats fruit that keeps her looking young even though shes been alive for ever. So it needs to be someone that looks mid twentiesish. Right? Well what do you all think? As a fan I'm strictly going by the text. Plus in fantasy films I think its better to have new faces for some roles.... The witch since, she is young, is one of them. If she were 30 or older I'd say pick a name actress, but shes not. My vote is for Stover or someone like her. The kids will obviously be unknowns or up and commers too, but I think that they other characters and voices could definitely be name actors if they feel they need that to pull people into the film. Look at the lord of the rings fellowship of the ring. Thats a nice mix of newer faces and established actors. Harry Potter is the same thing but the acting isn't as good (with the kids). Angelica Houston is a great actress but too old to play jadis. As for other name actors, lets face it, a name doesnt make you a good actor and just because an actor is a name actor doesn't mean they are the best choice. Casting is going to be a huge part of this movie and I guess mostly I feel strongly about the witch since the kids will most likely be brits that weve never heard of. God it would rule if stover was picked for the witch! Looking forward to your thoughts. Great post, Shel! Later skaters

Well I thought I'd better make an appearance before people begin to think I have curled up and died. Firstly an interesting "Rumour" that circulated the net for a bit:

comingsoon.net posted:

According to site, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is possibly going to be titled "The One Hundred Year Winter". It is to be produced by Frozen Lake Productions and will shoot from July to December 2004. Pre-production started in mid October.

UPDATE: 'SR Hadden' sent us an update about what the site above said on The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

I worked at Walden Media, the company behind Narnia, and have and update/correction for you.

The film will NOT be called "The Hundred Year Winter." That is their codename, ala "Blue Harvest" for Return of the Jedi. All materials have been marked as such except the script, but I was told this first hand.
Additionally, the script was lying around the office, and while I didn't have a chance to read it, I did read some of the correspondences between the various executives about the state of the script - Ann Peacock's draft. Generally speaking, most of them weren't happy with it, and despite casting going on for the children (they've got a huge collection of albums full of potentials), they're still doing heavy, heavy rewriting.

Well there you have it the begginging and end of that argument. I was pretty entertained when I heard about the name change and laughed to think a site as good as Comingsoon could make such a simple mistake. Even the idea sent warning bells to me strait away! well enjoy all and keep the posts coming!

>>By Pshawn   (Wednesday, 19 Nov 2003 05:38)

Yes, I saw that article as well. The Hundred Year's Winter title has been out there for some time. Production for the movie is supposed to be july-december 2004. It's exciting!

I think I can Shel. Whats your email? She has a site too www.JessicaStover.com but I think its coming soon.

Pshawn dude thanks for the update.

Does anyone know if they've started thinking about locations yet? Or music for that matter- PLEASE NOT JOHN WILLIAMS!! I wonder if they'll go with the traditional soundtrack (ie. Lord of the Rings) or experiment with adding modern music to the score - has anyone seen the Peter Pan Trailer? (www.apple.com/trailers)
They all seem to be re-doing all the old things, don't they? Well I hope they do a good job with TLWW.... I can't wait to see what they do with the story. Traditional? or something more innovative?

>>By Shel   (Friday, 21 Nov 2003 22:58)

I heard that COMPOSER JAMES HORNER has been approached to do the scoring for the film/films. For those who dont know him, he has done the score for Titanic. Other films he has done is The Perfect Score, Deep Impact, Apollo 13, Glory, Jumanji, A Beautiful Mind and The upcoming film The Missing.

hi there everyone, ive just read the whole board and soo had to join, by the way sorry i can understand why you would want to keep a gem of a forum quiet. And with such a useful contact, cheers Pshawn your amazing and were so lucky to have someone with inside gos. Anyway im an 18yr old (just) from the UK and have watched the series by the BBc from a very young age and read, most of the books, i have to admit not all, but i so will be now. as fealena said i would also give my right arm for a part in this movie as im sure lots of other people would. I used to belong to an acting agency but then my school work became to much of a priority but after my a levels this yr i can concentrate on my passion acting at uni. Im becoming worried that the principle parts have all been picked. And Pshawn u said something about they have books with hundreds of hopefuls in it. I don't no if u can tell me but how could i get on theses books, hehe, i wish.
Also a little bit of infor u might all be interested in, i am a memeber of the collectormania forum, which for those who don't no arrange events where cast of films such as this go and u can meet them. At the last one i met some amazing people, elija wood and sean astin to name two out of about 30. Anyway they want guest suggestions and i posted about the lion the witch and the wardrobe i don't no if it will come to fruition, but if any of u wanted to help with my plee then ur free to, my name there id Dom is God and anyway i ll keep u posted if any of the original cast are going to attend. Thankyou xx

On scoring, Shel, The peter pan trailer works well because Coldplay's music without words definitely has an fantasy/film feel to it. I love that choice for Peter Pan. I don't know about something like that for LWW though. It might bother me even if it was Coldplay or someone just as good. Speaking of doing remakes I wonder what percentage of films are actually original stories. Not remakes, adaptations from books, sequels or based on a true story. I bet you the yearly percentage is pretty low. Thats kind of weird when you think about it.

oh yea abby85 the casting director for the kids is in london on Talbot road. Her name is Pippa Hall. It's been on the board a couple of times.

>>By NarniaFanDan   (Saturday, 22 Nov 2003 22:08)

hey, Ray-Ray, thanks for posting the website- EVERYONE CHECK IT OUT!!! I think it's great! And I think James Horner is a great choice for music scores- he seems to have the sensitivity and connection to the text that would compliment the story well.
I just read that filming will be in New Zealand? Great Location- but maybe too much like the Lord of the Rings trilogy? I'm a bit disappointed in that.....

>>By Shel   (Saturday, 22 Nov 2003 23:02)

It's good to hear the party in here is growing. I'll be getting the low down over christmas and come back in the new year to keep you all up to date. It is very exciting a the moment casting will be happening over the next little while and hopefully the script will be finalised ready to start work! I hear that most of the work will be NZ based but the next movies will move to places with better locations like Australia. The majority of it will be done in NZ though, Only desert stuff will be in Aus at this stage but that's years away yet. there is a long wait so don't get impatient. a LOT of the LOTR crew will be doing the LWW it'll be awesome and different too!

I have been reading this discussion for two days and I am glad to see people that are interested in this! Thank you Pshawn for all the info about the movie, you are a big help. I live in the USA and was wondering if the casting directors are going to come here for some people to have in the movie. I know you are limited but if you could post it that would be a huge breakthrough. I have loved these books ever since I was a these books ever since I was a little kid and I am still reading them. I hope that if anyone out there has any info about the auditions, could you please post it.
Once again I thank everyone for the postings, and I will look for anything I can find to post also (right now this is the theme of my life).
