Yeah, i understood. =) in some way you're right, maybe the movie's name is Ring cause there are many "rings" in the movie, not just the one your talking about.
But still, i dont understand the importance of knowing y the film makers named the film Ring. =)

well, hun, that's something i couldn't understand either...i just wanted to make it clear on that matter, cause somebody started a comment about it,and it was wrong:))))
anyways,it really doesn't matter that much how the movie is called!

Well on the cover of the film, there is a big ring in the background lol... but too simplify things, the film shoud just have been called:

"Ugly-Smelly-Evil-Girl-Who-Likes-To-Kill-People-Who-Watch-A-Video-About-A-Well-And-A-Ladder"

he was going to kill me,cause i had told him it wasn't that scary.well,he thought it was very scary:)

omigod, this was the creepiest movie ever. does anyone else think that they could've made a ton of $$ by selling the creepy videotape in the movie? those would've sold like crazy.

i have seen the complete japanese ring cycle and the american one. i actually liked both the american and japanese versions, but my personal view is the japanese was more visually scary. Like Samara's fingernails when she comes out of the t.v. The american certainly had much better sound cues to make you scared - but I got a little annoyed at how much they tried to explain things. I had already seen the japanese version - but to have naomi watts say at the end : 7 days, because that's how long you can stay alive in a well. Well, that's just wrong. It oversimplifies it. In the japanese version, I thought it was quite cool, because they suggest that Samara actually didn't die until a few years before the film. Which was wayyy more creepy.

I'm with Nicotec on this, the Japanese version was way more creepy! I had seen it many years ago late at night by myself on TV and had no clue what it was about and thought it was great. I watched the American remake recently and was dissapointed and I hear they are going to remake the sequel ring 2 aswell. I suggest watchin the Japanese original first to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I've seen the original and it scared the hell out of me. I have no real desire to see the American one.

Ok, I've read everything posted here, if I repeat anything already dealt with I'm sorry, it's just because I don't get it, which is why I'm here.
Some people say it's full of holes, others say you just have to watch it carefully and pay attention, and others can't understand why one wouldn't get it. Well I watched it carefully (have seen it twice) and I don't get. I really don't. And I usually don't have that big a problem getting plots. So here are some jumbled questions.

What's up with the fly?
Why the nosebleed?
Why is Becca in the hospital very much an image of Samara?
I don't get the scene where Rachel is on the phone and starts coughing and pulls that thing out of her throat, and then that was a dream, but it wasn't because she has the marks and!!!!??????

Samara shows up to kill you, right? She was in Katies bedroom, crawled out of Noah's TV... but all four teenagers died at the same time, two were in a car... what did they see, how did she show up there? And how could she be in four places at once?

I was gonna ask what the significance of Rachel having made a copy is, and why she makes another one, but everyone here seem to agree on the chainmail explanation. However, if so, I think that is pretty lame in the way that they don't make it very clear. I will probably come back to this after reading all the posts again.
I don't see how the tape can have been made under the cabin floor when the kids were attempting to tape the game, because when Rachel meets Richard for the first time he seems to know what it is. Like... I don't know, it must have happened before.... ???
I don't really get the scene with Aidan at the end, as if he knows something Rachel doesn't, and... well she didn't survive because she helped her, but because she made a copy, and.... how did she help her exactly, she managed to do things before they got her body out of the well...

I have no idea which scene people are reffering to where you say Samara is played by the boy! I'm confused.
Enough for right now, all answers appreciated.

And another thing; why are there images on the film that then happen to Rachel, like the horse jumping from the ferry, looks exactly the same as the blood in the water on the tape. Is the tape slightly different depending on who's watching it, because of Samara's thoughts creating it?

Also, coming back to that I don't believe the tape was made when the kids were trying to tape the game in the cabin (well, maybe THAT copy was.... I just thought maybe they couldn't erase what was on there since it's not a normal tape...) , when Katie talks to Becca it is Becca who starts talking about it, it is already a legend, so if it had originated seven days ago, and Katie was one of the four responsible for it... am not sure how to frase it but it doesn't make much sense. Hope you can see where I'm going with that argument.

Ok, last post for today.
If Rachel is saved because she made a copy and showed it to someone else, and that saves you because Samara "wants to be heard", then
1. Why does one need to make a copy, why not just pass the tape on and show it to others?
2. I guess if she had let Noah show his assistent Noah would have lived. I was gonna write that she realizes this when she sees the girl going up to Noah's apartment, but that's not true because she hasn't figured out the copy thing yet.
3. Doesn't Noah watch the original tape, and then she makes a copy, that she keeps and I guess Aidan watches? My point is that it doesn't seem to matter which one you watch/ show to other people, as long as you make a copy, which brings me back to point one; why is THAT so important?!

Did anyone else notice that in the actual movie that samara made, the part with the box and the 7 fingers.. well if you look up in the right top hand corner, its not a finger at all. that is so gross, but when i asked everyone at school if they'd seen it no one else saw it. so i was just wondering if anyone else saw it. cause thats nasty, and ive seen it like 5 or so times, and ive never noticed "it" but my dad noticed the first time he saw it. just wondering.. thanks

OK, this movie scared the shit out of me!! I am not going to over-analyse it, Im just acting on my response from when I saw it...

The video is freakin eerie... and when Samara climbs out of that well (or the TV) I just wanna go into the featal possition and close my eyes! I loved it, but thought that the sequal sucked big time. In the beginning of the movie, where they show the cousin's face in the closet, I almost didnt want to continue watching the film! So scary.

Manda aka breathfarose23, I havnt seen what you are refering to yet, but I will definately check it out! Now you have given me another thing that will totally freak me out in this movie....!!!
