I just rented this movie and I liked it, thought it was very disturbing and interesting, very well made, but I DON'T GET THE ENDING. I've watched it twice and I just don't understand what's happening. Somebody please explain it to me. What are they doing with watching the video & copying it again?

>>By Mamma Maria   (Thursday, 6 Mar 2003 19:39)

I don't know if this is right, but it's what I've heard. Apparently the only way you survive watching the tape is to make another copy of it. Remember her time running out, but she lived anyway? I know, I thought it was because she rescued the girl. It was because she had made a copy. But the guy had helped her rescue the girl and he died....so that's why she had her son make another copy....to save him. Make sense? I didn't really care for the movie until someone explained that to me....it's a neat little twist.

The ending isn't great. The kid says something like "but what happens to the people we show it to?" And then it flashes really quick like they are showing us. So after you watch it you have 7 days to live. hoorah.

>>By Exeter   (Thursday, 20 Mar 2003 03:42)

i think the whole point of the ending beinglike that is to make people invent their own ending. Or to ponder about an ending for days, or weeks after. I think it's a trend that mystery movies seem to be taking up. TRY MULHOLLAND DRIVE. That will make you think for about a month.

Personally, I enjoyed the Ring ALOT. On thop of that I did a little research on it and I found the the story is really quite complicated and has a lot of backround things that aren't mentioned in the movie. For example, not every image on the tape was explained. Like the maggots. The maggots in the tape that turn into writhing human beings are either one of two things, either it's Samara's take on the whole human race or the maggots represent her after-death state. The 7 fingers in the box represented the number of days you were allowed in order to copy the tape and pass it on.

Not just that, but Samara also knew she was going to die! Why else would she have burned the tree into the wood at her home?
What I think she thought was thatshe could live out her life torturing people, but then that would be the end of it. OR she could die and torture humanity for eternity. She obviously chose that latter.

>>By tal   (Sunday, 8 Jun 2003 01:48)

The movie was pretty freaky... cuz i am only 11 and i watched it by myself at midnight in a room that had like 3 tvs lol

>>By Stephanie   (Sunday, 22 Jun 2003 07:15)

So, if u make a copy of the tape your time of life is extended for another week or do u just live and not die at all??? The movie was very nice... A scary ass movie, I watched it at night at midnight ended at 2am, damn I was scared like anything!!

The tape was made when the were in the cabin trying to tape the football game they got bad reception and the movie got on like that. Then the watched the tape and died 7 days later.

>>By Insurektion   (Tuesday, 8 Jul 2003 17:26)

There are also two more theories on how the tape was made.
#1. When the teens tried to recored the football game, they accidentaly recorded a broadcast or a show that had those freaky images on it. ( this is how the tape is made in Ringu )

#2. The tape allready had the wierd images on it, and due to it's mysteriousness, the wierd images didn't dissapear when the teens tried recording the football game on it.

I wonder if there are any true stories or cases of people actually dieng after watching a videotape. That would be interesting.

>>By Anna Morgan   (Wednesday, 9 Jul 2003 06:05)

I went to unsolvedmysteries.com and i read this story about this one guy who had this Aladdin videotape. every time he watched it one of his pets would either run away or get sick and die.
There is also this other story about this lady who went to this one concert back in 1996. Well, anyway, her mom whent too and she recorded the whole concert with a videocamera. a few years later, the lady found the concert tape and began watching it. All the footage was there, but the music was gone. Instead, she kept on hearing this really low voice saying some wierd stuff in another language or something like that. (* shudder* )

Sadako was SO HOT in Ring 0. ^_^;

>>By unknown   (Wednesday, 9 Jul 2003 06:16)

This was pretty lame of a scarry movie. Nothing like the Exorcist or other greats.

So I got the end with making a copy, but why doesnt she just destroy both copies after her son makes the second copy??? They have to give it to someone? But she didnt give a copy to anyone!!! The plot and ending had more holes than swiss cheese.

The tape the four kids died from having viewed, was created by samara in the well under the floor of their cabin. Whilst being interviewed by the phsychiatric nurse samara is asked how she created the pictures on the plastic cards. Her reply is, she just thinks of images and the just become. Either burned onto something, like the wall in the barn, or mentally, as in images placed into the kids minds (the girls file in her bedroom contained drawings that she couldn't explain how or why she was thinking them) or onto video tape, hence the lack of ID numbers on the video machine.
But why would she keep creating videos, when vhs wasn't around when she died. How come making a copy keeps you alive, you have still viewed the bloody thing. Aidan just needs a slap for being clever. Why was samara contacting aidan telling him to draw houses and no one else.
What the! How the? AARRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok heres the sitch....I've been watching horror movies ever since I was three years old and nothing has ever scared me...at least not until this movie came out. This is gonna sound a bit crazy but the worst part did'nt come until after I saw the movie...Just like Naomi Watts was seeing signs after she saw the film, so was I ! I saw the same ladder up against the wall, the same kind of well, the same mirror, the same tree(at least it looked the same) and even the damn centipede or millipede which ever one it was! Freaky huh? I could'nt sleep for like a week straight and I'm 20 damn years old! Freakiest movie!

>>By lilred   (Wednesday, 20 Aug 2003 08:54)

I agree with lilred, it is a freaky ass movie. I was watching it at my friends house and after the halfway mark i realized i was curled up in the fetal position weilding a Katana witha pillow over my head so much that i could only see out of one eye. I am not a brave persona nd many horror flicks scare me, but this was the worst by far.

Heres the explanation...
The videotape was her message to the world. telling everyone about her life...she thought it and it just "became" thats why theres no code. You have to make a copy and show it to someone because the reason she made it was to spread her message. If you don't help her spread the message she kills you. The tape came to be when the kids were trying to record the football game...they were right above Samaras grave...so she made it while they were trying to tape the game. Oh yeah...and she doesnt burn the tree you retard. It just looks like its on fire when the sun sets...thats the last thing she saw before her mom placed a bag over her head, suffocated her, hit her on the head with a rock and threw her in the well. By the way, the movie doesn't mention that her mom is a witch..i'm an expert on this movie...have any questions? just post em'!

>>By Catty   (Wednesday, 10 Sep 2003 00:26)

why????? why????? why????? was the little girl, Samara portrayed by the LITTLE BOY in the last part of the movie??? DId anyone else notice this????????

>>By beccca   (Saturday, 25 Oct 2003 08:39)

Here's a question I'm surprised isn't addressed on here...Where did Samara get these evil powers? Why can she burn stuff in video tape or barn walls? Why can she kill people through a video tape? I just watched the movie for the first time last night, and the best I can do is that she is some spawn of Satan. Brian Cox's character says "she wasn't supposed to have a child" or something like that. He also says that he doesn't have a daughter, suggesting that he isn't the biological father. I also thought I caught a glimpse of a birth certificate and hospital record that said Samara was conceived by Anna. Well, I would like to hear what people think.
