Does anyone know what Pete said to PK when he asked why the tribes always sang the song around him and Pete told him he was the rainmaker? I can't remember the quote it was something about without myth there is no hope...?

>>By Maggie   (Thursday, 9 Jan 2003 07:34)

Gil Piet said that he was the rain maker, and he makes things better and brings people together when there is no hope....something like that...I'm glad I found this site..this movie really moved me. I had NO idea that it was ever really like that..and I am very eager to learn more about the history of racism. I found my self in tears about every 10 minutes...It was an amazing movie...if anyone wants to discuss it then please feel free to contact me at innocentolpchick4life@hotmail.com thank you

This move was escentric, it had realism and was interesting. I would recomend this movie to people of all ages.

I was thoroughly disappointed in the movie after reading the novel.

In itself, this movie is a beautiful piece, starkly demonstrating the perils of racial segregation in South Africa at the time, while nuturing the beauty and worthiness of the native African people in both their glory and their white-inflicted drudgery. However, in comparison with the internationally-acclaimed novel upon which this film is based, we are presented with two totally different stories which almost bear no resemblence with eachother whatsoever: this angered me to a considerable extent. Being a person who has read the book at least 10 times over the last couple of years, I found it appalling that the storyline had been twisted and moulded so extensively - while at the same time attributing it to the namesake of the original. The final blow for me came when I discovered that Bryce Courtenay was Project Consultant for the film - what on earth was he thinking?! Surely the financial benifits, combined with a commercially successful film, made him hopelessly blind.

holy crap! this movie is awful, just awful. more of the Hollywoodization of history. the white man to the rescue of the poor pacifist, victimized Africans.

for those of you who enjoyed the film, please take the time to educate yourselves about the power of the many Africans who took their own destinies into their hands, NOT the power of one.

Hey Bassman, to let you know something, you simply missed the whole freaking point of the movie. It was showing that the people will never be strong until they learn to act together, or as the movie states, in the "Power of One". So before you come around to making another comment on how much this movie sucked, check up on your facts.

Yea...umm... you thought the movie was amazing, try reading the book, it was beyong great.

>>By surrealisticlow   (Monday, 17 Feb 2003 08:03)

This was an incredible movie!! It tells the story of apartheid in South Africa which many people know little or nothing about! The actors were great and the music to die for! I would totally recommend this movie for everyone, and families to watch with children, so they know the history of this era.

Anyone out there who thought the movie was good should read the novel. Compared to the book and its sequel, this movie is pathetic.

>>By Ashlea   (Sunday, 2 Mar 2003 05:37)

I saw the movie first not even knowing about the book. The movie was so amazing it made me wonder if there was a book. I then got a hold of t6he book and it and the sequel, Tandia, was just that much better. The movie is great because you get sounds and pictures to use when you are reading the book. For those of us who have been unfortuanate enough never to have been to Africa the stiking scenery and the sounds of the nation are available to us through the movie. Both the book and the movie were a moving tribute to a beautiful, complex country.

I really think this movie was good, i was watching it while having sex. I orgasmed perfectly when the credits started rolling, it was amazing, the guy who was doing me was named Cecil, and this movie was his favorite. I like the bit where the guy said "hi!" bye :D

I studied the movie for english, i thought it was horrible how they treated everyone that was in jail. i thought that it was a pretty good movie. but its one i couldnt watch over again.

>>By KaTiE *   (Sunday, 6 Apr 2003 09:18)

i loved this movie. we watched it im my english class. frist i though it was going to be stupid and dull, but after watching it i wanted to watch it again. i didnt know there could be so many differet types of prejugdes's out there, but after watching the movie it opened my eyes. though some parts are disturbing it gets the point across. only if the whole world could be like that, "A waterfall started with a drop of water." i recommend everybody to watch this movie. thanx, peace.

The movie was so good! My civics teacher showed it to us in class. Even though it was a little gory and very graphic I enjoyed it very much. Oh how times have changed, thank goodness. I'm glad to know there is a book, I'll be reading it!
