Blackhawk Down

I cannot believe some of the comments on this board.....there were19 killed and 75 wounded (officially), due to Les Aspins (then SECDEF and Bill (Bend over Baby, I have a cigar and Hillary's comin!) REFUSAL to send REQUESTED armor to those soldiers.
For those that believe it was dramatized by Ridley Scot...Et. Al., I suggest you read the book by Mark Bowden, which was the basis for the movie.
Mr. Bowden wrote the book because he was STUNNED by what he heard from our troops who were there, which he sure as hell did not hear from the liberal media.
I will never forget the veteran from Somalia in the hospital in Landstuhl with RPG fragments in his head (they showed the X-rays) said they were slaughtered because of Washingtons REFUSAL of armor, yet they kept trying because they wanted to rescue their buddies.

As for any "'nam vet" that states Somalia was not a battle, he disparages his own service (if he did serve) and ALL those who served in Somalia by his assinine comments.

How many days in battle does it take to measure up? If a soldier is in battle for one day and he is wounded, should he NOT get a Purple Heart because he was only in battle for one day?

If a soldier is in battle for one minute, and he is killed, should his family be told he did not measure up because he did not survive longer?

Grow up!!!!

i think the guys who are at war are right. america is what those are there for. mogadishu war was bad like in the movie but we won and that makes us great. go usa. you shouldn't argue about a war that we already won guys. mogadishu surrendered to the united states. the movie was sad, but it showed what happened. remember that.

The only person on this board that had anything decent to say was the somalian vet. He speaks the truth which can't be said for lot of these wannab soliders, the little boys that watch movies like Blackhawk Down and then think they know all about war. These are the very boys that try and claim the glory that only a solider would know.

It's a great movie! then again... it just a movie. I'd read the book. there's so many differences between it and the movie. Mr. Bowden had written it as it should. Based on facts and first hand interviews from the vets. Not like the producer or director of the movie... Too many crap. US citizens should be told the TRUTH! Not some Hollywood version of it.

To those whom had fallen... may they rest in peace...

Brits 22 Speacial Air Service had rejected US Army "request" for them to carry out the attack. After a recce, they said it's suicide. Too many lives could be lost for soo little gained. Better
carry on the ops. outside bakara market.

Facts :-

1) They don't have armoured backup (Abrams or Bradleys).
2) There's no air cover in AC-130 or even the Cobra from US
Army QRF in Somalia!*
*For the record, there's another QRF unit in Somalia...
Malaysian's Royal Malay Regiment under UN banner,
a Mech. unit with Germans' Condor APC.
3) No reliable intel.
4) Attacking the enemy "Hornet Nest" in bright daylight when the
Task Force Ranger + Delta speciality is night attack!
5) Underestimate the capability of their enemy when fighting in
the enemy's playground!

Question :-

Can somebody tell me why did they still sent those men in when all the odds were against them? What were they thinkin' out there? Delta and ranger are pros. But do brass need to sacrifice those mens life when the ops. could be carried out elsewhere just like the Brits concluded?

Just wanna know? -
