The Shining

Forum

The Shining is kind of gross, but some good parts are okay, but the bad parts with Jack Nicholson wielding the pick in his hands is evil.

The new one is more scarier than the old shining movie. The New Shining is with Steven Weber as the meanie. He uses a large croquet mallet instead of the pick, but I think it's more of a scarier weapon than the old.

Ok Im sorry am I the only one who doesnt get teh who anteater bear dog guy doing something very wrong to that old guy at the end?? coud someone explain that please??

>>By chloe   (Wednesday, 25 Dec 2002 04:36)

The "anteater bear dog guy", was a reference to the book. Basically, a guy told another guy the only way he would hook up with him is if he wore a dog costume...I guess this is Kubrik's theory of what happened.

um yeah...what was with the end!? i totally dont get it

>>By stuff   (Saturday, 31 May 2003 22:17)

The picture @ the end and date makes no sence.

>>By Mike   (Monday, 30 Jun 2003 09:23)

I probably made a mistake? I wasn't really thinking that was a pick kind of tool. It really was a fireman's axe. I was may be kidding, but I just think that sometimes I like to picture, change it, and make it a different tool sort of.

Jack Nicholson was chasing his son threw the maze. He told him "We can't get away!" which was kind of creepy. He's one of my favorite actors. He played in this 1980 thriller classic film which you all maybe know of called "The Shining". Jack Nicholson was born in Neptune, N.J. He went to High School in Manasquan, N.J.

this movie is #1 on my movie list...it's sooo good, the book is too, but the end is totaly diffrent.
the bear-dog- thing freaked me out so much...oh yea and the freakin' girls...wow, scary.

>>By polar5011   (Wednesday, 7 Apr 2004 05:16)

The bear-dog thing was freaky but seemed out of place. It was like they were trying to inject a strange sexual tension to the sequence and it just seemed ooky. I don't know, maybe that means they succeeded.

The Kubrick version is much better for me than the one with Weber. Even though DeMornay was better casting for Wendy than Shelly Duvall, Shelly was awesome with the whole "terrified out of her mind" thing. That movie is top of the list absolute favorite scary movies.

>>By Dare   (Thursday, 8 Apr 2004 00:16)

yea, Kubrick can do movies. and Shelly, she can be like totaly wacked out when it comes to being scared to death.

>>By ftad   (Sunday, 16 May 2004 09:48)

this is one of the best movies of kubrick

The idea of alcoholism and its ability to bring one to an almost psychotic state (in cases of extreme withdraw) was brilliantly reancted in The Shining. I think the underlying purpose of Stephen King in his book and less so in Kubricks movie version was to identify that very monster that alcholics grapple with, but in a most entertaining and pop culture sort of way.

I thought the shining was a good film cos i'm well in to stephen kings horror films but those 2 twins really scared me and i didnt like the blood pouring out of that elevator...i gotta admit that film did give me a couple of nightmares but its still a boss film!!!

great movie.......coca

>>By coca   (Friday, 28 May 2004 02:04)

yeah gotta say this movie wasreally good but Only the original! The one with Jack Nicholson. The newer one totally bombed though. I think it was mostly because of the little boy. He looks like a god-damned duck with those stupid lips stickin out like that! The ONLY part of the movie that i did like however was when the bushes started movin in on the boy...I was really hoping they'd kill him this time just cuz hes so annoying!
Jack N. on the other hand I thought ( and my mom still gets freaked out about this cuz im 21 and hes like really old) was really cute in that...even though he went totally nuts. And the line never would've gotten so popular if it wasn't for him. You all know what im talkin about.... "HERES JOHNNY!!!!!!!!!" God even after all these years it still has never gotten old...even if he does.

>>By lilred   (Saturday, 29 May 2004 08:27)

Who was "Johnny"?

>>By ftad   (Saturday, 29 May 2004 16:57)

He was Johnny... you know Johnny ... -_^.... Frightening movie.

I'm glad people have shed light on the bear-in-costume business. I also feel that the stuff about room 247 is not explained clearly enough in the film. Having not read the book myself, I always got the impression that perhaps there was more about this strange woman that is not fully expained in the film. So much is made of it in the conversation between Danny and the other guy who has the shining (I forgot his name) and I expected more of a conclusion.

>>By litgirl   (Thursday, 5 Aug 2004 20:36)

I liked both versions , the first one is terrifying, but the 2nd one explained more. I thought the moning topiary bushes were scary.

>>By scarletnikki   (Monday, 23 Aug 2004 00:34)

first thought after reading yours, best line up: Jack Nicholson The kid from the first one, and DeMornay as the wife, and scatman rocks. second: the second movie was closer to the book. (you really should read it) The mallet and the moving animal bushes are from there. third: the lady in the bathtub is explained in the second movie. Many murders and other evil stuff had happened over the centuries, like suicides, the evil of the place is what took over both caretakers. Any more quesstions? :)

>>By Lady_Key   (Thursday, 26 Aug 2004 12:23)

by the way, one more thing.....it was the ghost of the dead caretaker, before Jack, that opened the door for Jack.

>>By Lady_Key   (Thursday, 26 Aug 2004 12:26)

"here's Johnny" is a quote from the old Johnny Carson show. It's how Ed McMann would always introduce Johnny Carson.

>>By Lady_Key   (Thursday, 26 Aug 2004 12:29)

So can someone just explain to me why Jack looked exactly like the old care taker?

>>By Gummy   (Friday, 3 Sep 2004 00:29)

Well, I think he WAS the old care taker and he has always been. The hotel is alive and it needed Danny because of his power and so Jack was supposed to kill him so the hotel could keep him.
