Loved this movie (Val Kilmer version) first time I saw it while young

Wasn't as good the 2nd time round I saw it many years later.

I think you have to be a Doors fan to fully appreciate it.

Being a Doors fans helps. Maybe that's why I liked it.

It's also a good movie if you're interested in the sixties in general, but I think Oliver Stone idealizes the era a little.

I heard Ray Manzarek say in an interview that Jim Morrison wasn't nearly as serious in real life as he is in the movie. Manzarek says they were bunch of potheads who were laughing half the time.

Val was well cast as Jim though. He looks so similar to him

I agree. Val Kilmer made a good Jim Morrison. It's a good movie.
