Spirited Away

Best Anime movie I have ever seen, and now my favorite movie. All of Miyazaki's movies show how kids save the day, and each one wouldn't be complete without romance. The only part I didn't like was the ending. Why do Anime always end sadly? Some don't, but most do. I think that they should have showed Chihiro at home, and then they meet their neighbors. And, it just happens to be Kohaku. He was the son, and he had come back. I thought that would have been a great ending, but it didn't happen. Well, I hope they come out with a second one then, because (like most of Miyazaki's anime) it deserves a sequel.

Actually, the movie had a very happy ending. It had what could be considered an open-ended ending. It doesn't beat you over the head with rainbows and lollipops to show that it's happy.. it just implies that Chihiro has grown into a better person for her experiences and that the future is hers for the taking, now moreso than ever, to mold into her own happy ending. It's like ending a story with "And they had many, many more adventures." than with "And they lived happily ever after." It leaves it up the the viewer to draw their own conclusions, making the story a more personal experience.

Kohaku was the embodiment of the Kohaku River. If anything, I think a fitting end beyond what was presented would be to see Chihiro visiting the Kohaku River... for that is how they would meet again.

U are so complicated. I Truly Fell in love with the Movie i love it so much. I think the ending should have had something better to do with Chihiro meeting Kohaku again some place and it Does truly Deserve a Sequel if they do make one im gonna make sure i see it ^.^

I really liked spirited away, but I think they should make another about how Chihiro meets Haku again latyer when she grows older.

I LOVE the movie. I'm praying that they make a sequal. I have to know what happens to Chihiro and if she ever meets up with Haku later. I don't like making up my own endings.

Spirited Away is now my favorite animated movie, it was Princess Mononoke, but Spirited Away dominated Princess Mononoke, but there should make a Spirited Away 2, because i really wanna see if Chihiro meets up with Haku....my favorite part in that movie is when Chihiro wonders off and meets Haku, then Haku told Chihiro to go and get off there, before the river appears, then she finds her parents as pigs, i thought that was pretty funny :) well i would just really like for a second Spirited Away.

I was a member of an anime club for a year and from my experience there is good anime and bad anime. Just like there are good (normal) movies and bad movies. Spirited Away was particularly excellent. *****
p.s. I didn't like Princess M. much.

I am really curious to know this; how did chihiro actually know that those were not real pigs and that her parents weren't there? my friend suggested that the frog had something to do with it because they showed the frog just before she starts looking at the pigs.

Can anybody help cos its been on my mind and i just can't figure it out no matter how many times i watch it. :(

btw, the movie is absolutely magnificent.

Maybe it had something to do with intuition (A gut feeling, 6th sense kind of thing).

Another reason could be this. Imagine if your parents got turned into pigs, they would still act like your parents but as pigs. They might share the same idiosyncrasies like if the father tended to tilt his head to the right, he might do the same in pig form

Anyway this is all speculation :)

well, i think that's one of the reasons why its a great film. you keep thinking about it. you go back and see it again. and again. hehe

I am interested in the very same question like yours. If Chihiro chose someone not her parents, what would happen? Remember she and the witch had made a deal that if she chose wrong person, her parents would not be set free, and would live as pigs forever. So if I were chihiro, I would not be able to make a decision like this, coz it is too dangerous and hard to decide: (

Yes but it was worth the risk. Chihiro had already grown enough and been given help by TWO river spirits and a good witch already. She has by now learned to trust her instincts. As a child we do this more anyway. If she was an adult maybe, it's true; the choice would have been too difficult.

spirited away.....................significant,that plauses a zombie like fixation on the subjects transformed, an inhumanization of a kind, and what would be the destination for that..reptured souls taken....>

miyazaki infuses a certain imaginative rush in his films that is rarely seen. i am completely in love with this film, and anticipate the arrival of howl's moving castle. simply amazing.

i just watched this today. it was good, very very imaginitive, lovely animation too, but it went a bit disney towards the end, which really let it down i thought.

Spirited Away is a masterpiece in the mind of Miyazaki. There are many concepts to the movie that need to be addressed as more than amazing itself. The overall work quality of the movie itself shows that animators like Miyazaki have compassion for the work that they do and there are many things that you can find in all of his movies. They all have a flying scene in the movie, the two main characters fall in love, and the end of the movie leaves an open happy ending. This movie is one of the best I've seen in the way of the anime world, and just as all the other Miyazaki movies that I've seen, I have bought it and watch it constantly.

I thought this movie was so awesome. I hate to offend anyone out there, but I really can't stand anime and when my younger brother and sister turned it on and I saw it was anime I wanted to leave right away, but for some reason I kept watching, and I'm glad I did. I thought it was such an awesome movie, definitely one of my favorites!!

A great movie, in fact i watched it again just yesterday, i get laughed at for liking "cartoons" and you know so what, these people don't know what they are missing. I love anime and some manga, i have all Studio Ghibli movies on dvd apart from one only sitting proudly in my collection. Awesome!

>>By IanM   (Tuesday, 19 Dec 2006 17:38)

It is one of my favourite movies... I loved the idea of the bath for cleaning dirty souls...
I will watch ''Howl's Moving Castle'' in a soon.

Just watched the English dubbed version (it was on TV yesterday)... Why can't they get decent voice actors to do the English? This is a beautiful film, and deserves better. I really enjoyed the original (Despite my poor Japanese), and the sub-Disney characterisation seemed like aural vandalism to me.

Looking forward to seeing what Ghibli do with "Wizard of Earthsea" (favourite book as a child, all those years away).

Seriously? That will be cool, I did that book in school.

I quite liked the voice acting in Spirited Away. It's anime voice acting, it's grown on me.
