I still cannot get my head around the gap between the hype and the reality on this movie. It is pretty good, Daniel Craig puts in a good performance (albeit no better than in Casino Royale), and there are some great action sequences (though the movie never fully recovers from how kinetically exciting the pre-credit sequence is - a problem it shares with the generally *underrated* "The World Is Not Enough"). But Bond as written, and as a character, is too much of a cipher to carry the weight of Batman-style "brooding orphan" stuff (Fleming had the right idea - mention it, leave it), and the film drops off markedly once it heads to Scotland for a frankly ludicrous conclusion.
