i was wondering if anyone rememebrs why the little girl kept leaving her water all around the house?

>>By vonda   (Friday, 24 Jan 2003 22:59)

I guess she was paranoid. She kept talking about germs and bacteria....how did her mother die? Maybe it had someting to do with that. I didn't really think Signs was all it was cracked up to be. Maybe I'm just not in touch with the paranormal...

This movie revolves around fate. She was leaving her water around the house because it was "dirty" which killed the extraterristrial. Fate also saved the boy because his lungs were closed (from asthma) so he didn't inhale the toxins.

Does anybody know the name of the guy who played Mel Gibsons brother in the film? I think He's seriously fine!.......................................................oh yeah and the film was great too. But seriously the concept of Fate at work within life was essential to the plot . if u didn't get that you didn't get the film. Kitten i think u need to watch the film again. i watched it twice& only fully "got it" the second time.

I thought signs was absolutely brilliant...untill the end. It seems to need a sequel to make the ending an acceptable one, but the story has left no end for a sequel to attach itself (unless the aliens come back for more humans to 'harvest'??)

I saw the movie about 5-6 times, Jacquin was so fine in that movie.........when I saw it in theatre I got scared when the dog barked 'cause it was loud in there. My favorite is when Jacquin was in the closet watching tv.

It was pretty scary. It seemed very real. When you heard them moving about on the roof,it was just spooky. The realisation that the aliens were trying to trick them was scary. When Mel looked up from his daughter and saw one of them on the roof it scared the hell out of me.But the most terrifing moment for me was when the home movie on the news showed the alien walking past,it near scared me to death.I knew it was coming but still.Lots of scary moments, besides these ones.Freaky indeed.

I thought signs was a good film but didn't understand why Aliens who can't touch water decided to conquer Earth which has a lot of Water on it! Also, doesn't the air have H2O in it? how would the aliens have been able to breath our air?

Poignant
"Signs" is a movie about Faith in God, not fate or chance. There is plenty of biblical symbolism in the film to support its message that God is in control of everything and that things in life are NOT coincidental and have a purpose for His plan.

The most obvious symbol is the sings of the crop circles around the world. Yes, in reality some are hoaxes, but others are unexplained. This relates to the reality of warning signs in our lives about what is right and wrong and the choices we make because God gives us free will. The water that Bo leaves around is symbolic of Holy Water. After all doesn’t it destroy the flesh of the alien just like it would and evil demon described in the bible? The connection with providence is that Bo kept wanting and getting the water but would leave it around untouched. God provided that action in their lives so that the glasses would be everywhere when it came time to strike back at the alien and have it splash in its skin. Many of you have already touched on Morgan's asthma causing his lungs to be closed and preventing him from aspirating the poison gas. Although, the disease is inaccurately portrayed, the reason for Morgan's asthma is providence. Another moment of providence involves the brother. He was a baseball player who held two records, one for the longest hit ball and the other for strikeouts. God provided his lackluster career so that he would be with the family during this crisis. He even kept his bat that was used to destroy the alien. Notice that his bat was wooden. This is symbolic of the wooden cross where Jesus died for our sins. Did not the aliens have a rather demonic look to you? They were not portrayed as the pop culture aliens we normally think of. They were also said to be harvesting us. That is just what Satan does his best to do through our not following God's warning signs. The most important and poignant point of the movie is that main point that caused the grief and the reckoning of the family - the death of the wife. We see how she tells her husband about things that he doesn’t understand. She tells him to "see." He finally does. She tells him to tell his brother to "swing away." What seems like rambling is actually a message provided by God. She had to die so that she could relay the messages to her husband so that he would use them to save his family. In the last parts of the movie, Morgan asks his dad is someone saved them. His father replies "yes, somebody did." God provided His son to die a horrible death so that our sins would be paid for. Somebody has saved us. All you have to do is accept God's providence of Grace and you will have everlasting life. If you would like more information on your everlasting life, please visit www.needGod.com.

The movie as a movie was brilliantly done. Many people criticize its lack of monster effects, violence and gore. But you would have to have a pretty lame imagination not to be terrified during this movie. There is more to what isn't seen than what is. I highly recommend that families watch this movie together. And please remember that just because things don't go your way in life doesn't mean that you are forsaken by God. He loves his creation to much too just let bad things happen without a Holy reason.

it was a great film and worked out bueatifly but the water thing annoys me.
as Too Smart for a Nickname stated there H2O in the air but the fact is its so small it wouldnt matter but the fact that the entire planet is made of mostly water would kinda give you the impression no one who can easily be severely harmed by water wouldnt come to earth plus the invasion was on a global scale. last time i checked at any time it is raining in hundreds of places all over the world.

>>By Billy Pilgrim   (Thursday, 17 Jun 2004 02:46)

yeah, while your on that, tell me....why the hell is King Kong so big...and why the hell does The Blob consume people?

>>By quiet-kid   (Friday, 27 Aug 2004 06:41)

I agree with Ichthus about the religious connections and importance of trusting God and his workings in mysterious ways. Mel Gibson's decision to return to the priesthood at the end of the story also represented a realisation of his own faith, now that he understands why there were only "one set of footsteps in the sand" (if you don't know this story ask me).

Has anybody read H.G.Wells' "The War of the Worlds"? The water issue can be explained there. When the Martians invade England, they sweep away the armies etc... but have no resistance to water. Seeing as how water does not exist on Mars, the Martians would not have known about it and so their attempted colonisation of this new land would have been met by an unfamiliarity of a deadly threat that could kill them - the simplest of simple things, water. Obviously this is adapted to suit Signs in the way that this method is discovered in the Middle East, and later realised in the film's climaxing scene with the confrontation of the 'rogue' alien.

While I can understand why Too Smart for a Nickname and Billy Pilgrim touch upon the point of water's dominance of Earth, it would have made the film far too scientific, if the aliens could have someway survived the (small amount of) hydrogen oxide which exists in the atmosphere but perish from contact with a few splashes.... M. Night Shyamalan was trying to make a more thematic and thoughtful story, encompassing the concepts of coincidence, fate, religious morals, belief and faith.

I thought the film was great; it jigsawed together to provide a conclusive ending. Hinting at the threat of the invasion rather than the 'yee-haah' chaos of Independance Day allowed the film to sustain an element of fear without going over-board with special effects. The simplicity of the film was what made me appreciate it more I guess.

A very dubious piece of religious propaganda.

>>By SteveLB   (Tuesday, 14 Sep 2004 21:45)

the aliens weren't trying to conquer the planet as has been suggested, if they were i doubt they'd be attacking a farmhouse in random town USA, they were just out to collect some specimens..... for some reason.
How can a species, who manage to develop intersteller travel and are more or less undetectable when they want to be, not figure out how to open a pantry door? i mean they managed to get into the house in the first place didn't they......
It may not sound like it but i really enjoyed this film, i think it had a pg or 12 rating in britain but still managed a few frights.....
