Certainly makes my shortlist for best movie ever.....Amazingly I first seen it when a mate bought it and didn't like it, so he gave the copy to me....On his advice I put of watching it till I was really bored...I can't beleive how Incredibly good it was......the most heart wrenching but exhilarating cinematic story I've ever came across!......

A film to watch alone, and absolutely amazing, Brooks Hadlen brought tears to my eyes

Gotta agree with the Shawshank lovefest in here! Morgan Freeman positively MADE this movie. His narration was so...real.
No matter how many times I see this film I cry my little eyes out!
To all the Stephen King doubters out there- this story realy proves his genius.
Go to the literature part of this site for more of his short works- The Long Walk is equally gripping!

one of the bests
imdb has it rated as the second best film of all time right after the godfather which i personally would not watch if i could watch shawshank instead.

Love this movie. I love the scene where the one dude discovers a maggot in his food then the old man asks for it. I could watch that part over and over.

What can I say?? Fantastic! although I probably would never have seen it if it wasn't for a chance viewing on tv. This film goes to prove that critics are wrong ( I don't remember it being a big hit in England when it first came out). One of the few films that is better than the book.

You mean to say I haven't actually written anything about this brilliant film?? This will simply not do.

I'll always remember the day my R.E teacher put this film on. Instead of relaxing into the familiar lull of my interrupted dreams, my memory flickered back to C4's top 100 movies, number 2 to be precise, then to my video recorder, where lying in it was the tape of this fantastic film - then, by pure chance, I managed to borrow it off of someone I knew. He loves it. I love it. We don't love each other; we're in love with the film.

Favourite Scene:
When everybody just discovers the hole in the wall behind the poster in Tim's room.

I agree - brilliant movie.

The scene on the roof where the prisoners drink beer and "felt like kings for a moment" brought tears to my eyes....
