Heinrich Harrer wrote one of the best books I've read. He also wrote an epic about the Eiger, " The White Spider".
However this film I thought did not justify the book. But that's Hollywood for you. Yes Brad Pitt is gorgeous but do you really think that he can portray the great Harrer. If you think that you have not read the book.

Part of the scenery are photos ( the temples mostly) that the director JJ Annaud took in Tibet, but he could not get the necessary authorizations to shoot his film on location, so most of it was shot in Argentina.
I do not get tired of watching this movie. It never is boring and the scenery is so stunning !

That's typical of a country who has systematically raped another of it's religion and peoples. I've have a sister who has been to Nepal and has heard at first hand from Tibetans what the invaders are like. Could they not have shot in Nepal or was it too near for comfort or too expensive?

i know they werent allowed in tibet because of China's strict goverment and i hope the reason nepal said no was because they can see a bad movie coming. This movie was just a shmoozed version of a great book with a famous actor but in to make growth in the box office. Heck just read the message board every praising post says "BRAD PITT IS HOTT" im come on a shit movie isnt magically good because it has a hot guy in it on thoughs lines every porno film would be a box office hit.
