The depth and complexity makes this completely worthwhile...especially when the dude max drills a hole in his head....oh yes rock on peacebomb

Few people truely understand the film...all i can say is that Sean Gullette knows a lot of things.

What a title for a movie. Leaves you wanting to know what the hell it's about. Actually I just heard reviews so far. I'm ordering the movie now.

Hands down the best movie i've see, it is very werid and complex, it has awesome cinematography. It is in black and white, but i hardly noticed. This is like no other movie i've seen, if you like this try requeim for a dream.

It just does not make any sence

This movie was made for people that have left many dreams behind in hopes of holding on to just one. I too have searched for patterns among the chaos and in the digits of pi.

>>By Deuceyfruit   (Thursday, 23 Jan 2003 01:04)

damn good movie.. almost as complex as a david lynch or stanly kubrick film yet still too complex for the general population to understand or even be interested in.

I didnt understand it :( but then again - i started watching it an hour into it - that might be a reason why :$   (Wednesday, 29 Jan 2003 01:48)

Pi was an excellent movie with outstanding cinematography. Although in black and white, the depth of the picture made it worthwhile. By the same director as Requiem for a Dream, this movie, starring Sean Gullette, is a must see.

There is truly an order, just as Max suspected. Unfortunately, our brains are not currently able to process to complexity of that order, so our inadequately active brains automatically go into "surge protect mode." We therefore can only perceive chaos in the order because we cannot know the truth while imprisoned in a human shell. (without proper training, of course (which is highly restricted)) Only by deserting the shell can we truly be free, and only by being free can we truly receive a small amount of understanding. If Max's small enlightenment was enough to destroy his physical manifestation, imagine what omniscience would do to a human body.

Scary, isn't it?

Count the digits (you can do it), there are 218 not 216. 4 rows of 50 + 1 row of 18. What's more the number is not even prime - what a joke!

pi was an excellent film i just bought it on dvd...i love the way the film was shot

>>By rotknee   (Thursday, 13 Mar 2003 05:53)

i just finished watching this movie like 10 minutes ago... and i can't seem to grasp how i feel about it. it's definitely different from all the movies i've ever seen. all i can say is that it was not bad - but i cant measure how much i like it... probably because it was strange and a bit too much to understand all at once. i don't know.. i have to sit and think about this one. it's left me confuzzled.

>>By luella   (Wednesday, 7 May 2003 05:14)

incredible...seen it about 5 times before buying it yesterday.....for those who feel that life has a pattern....that our lives may revolve around the notion of spiral, this movie is for you. I do feel that life has an interesting pattern. Events that occur around my environment seem to happen at timed intervals (wars, stock market crashes, "evolution", personal relationships, etc.). Coincidence is an answer for those who wish not to understand the patterns of life. Things happen for a reason, and things do repeat, only at different times. Time has a linear progression, and the details that fulfill life occur in a circular pattern. When combining the two theories, there is a spiral. Interesting stuff.

I love this movie. It's really interesting and it sucks you right in. Max's character really makes you think about what is going on, and you question what you really know about the world. The whole idea about numbers being everything is so completely new to me that I had a hard time processing it, but once I got it figured out, I started to think about everything that was happening. It's a whole movie about "what if"s to me. Bringing in the Jewish religion and stock market brought a sense of reality to it and I saw myself beginning to wonder if people are really doing this. I also felt horrible for the poor guy being chased like that, schitzophrenia, migraines, and the never ending struggle to figure out Pi.

Numbers being everyting are Knew to me ass well. I luved this movie so much i made it my screenname. However being off the Jewish faith i would like to say that the movie did not portray jews in an accurate light. Most jews do not run around punching people in the head and are only interested in numbers if they are accountants. I like how he gave himself a lombotomy in the end. He's not only a mathemagician but a surgeon as well as shown by the rubber gloves.

Requiem For a Dream - if you liked Pi, you'll love requiem for a dream.
Pi is a true classic piece of directing, and writing.
Also if you liked it, check out David Lynch's many masterpieces - Lost Highway, Blue Velvet et c.

If you liked the "Hidden Secrets" aspect of this movie, try reading Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. Of course there are numeric patterns in the world, its no secret, ask any environmental scientist, population theorist, chemist, or especially physicist. Mathematics reveals what happens because of physics. Physics describes what happens. There is no explanation.

Firstly i'd like to agree with 'piearesquared' The film does not show jewish people in a good light. But if i had a chance to change it, i wouldn't - it all adds up to the story, emotions etc etc.

Secondly i'd like to point out that the film was done in black and white on perpose. In colour it would of been less captivating and otehr words i can't thing of right now (it's half 4 in the morning).

Thirdly. I don't understand why people don't understnad it. Yes it's complexed, yes it's differant but every little thing makes sense in that film, you either jsut need to watch it again and pay attentioon to every detail, or if you hear words etc you don't understand, look 'em up. If it's the concept (which was amazing- understatement of the century) of the film or the way it was directed (which by the way was flawless) then, no offense, but your either dumb/unsuffisticated or jsut simply crap at analyzing and anotating films with all its plots, characters etc.

Finaly i'd like to say how fantastically EVERY LITTLE BIT about the film was, it's so utterly incredible, i won't bother trying to tell you how good it is, because by now i probably already have done damage to it.

GO SEE IT IF YOU HAVN'T!!! - and if you have seen it, watch it again and again untill you ahve yoruself a revelation.
