Their was a horror film called Equinox back in the 50's that had half claymation and half real action. It was orginally a student film that got promoted and had a theatrical release. The movie starts with a investigater trying to interview a patient at the asylum, but the patient ignores the investigater so he listens to a recording of the patient a year ago. On the recording the patient tells the story how he and some friends were going to help a professor from school. Upon arrival to the professor's cabin they encounter an old man in a cave. The old man hands them a book and they accepted and continue their journey. As soon as they got there the professor's cabin was totally destroyed. While trying to figure everything out they encounter a ranger "who later turns out to be the devil" tells the group to leave. And the story continues as the group go through holes in time, battle demonic possessions, and finally satan himself, only the patient survived the entire ordeal and learn his fate that he will die exactly in one year. The investigater left most dissatisfied with the story and realizes he accidentally took the patients crucifix. As the investigater leaves the patient's possessed girlfriend arrives to the hospital as the patient cries for his cross. I believe most of the claymation was added to the film to spice it up because it easy to see all the inserted scenes. After I watched this film it seems similar to Evil Dead mostly because of the demonic possessions and the medieval castle they encountered. I thought the movie was very corny but hilarious to watch. I hope I answered your question and if you need anymore information remember my nickname CHAI.
