I barely sat through the movie
a bunch of pretentious crap
i don't see what is so beautiful about 4 people who are the manifestation of some of the most pathetic human qualities.
yeah yeah, i understand that not only the positive ought to be displayed or expressed, but this was way off balance for me.
I think the reason i hate it is because i know a tad too many people quite similar to the 4 characters and I find them repulsive.
otherwise, great acting and directing, no doubt about that.

When this movie came out in December my boyfriend and I had just gotten back together after I had been in Europe for two months and he was living in my apartment. I did not think much about seeing the movie, Julia Roberts is somewhat of a turn off since some of her more recent romantic comedies.
My now ex-boyfriend of a couple months decided to tell me 3 weeks ago that he had been sleeping with someone the entire time I was in Europe, all the while sending me loving e-mails as well as horrible "I can't take your absence" e-mails. And in my apartment!
Perhaps I am a truly tortured soul but I wanted to watch this movie with him. It actually helped me. The dialogue I had experienced myself nearly word for word, and afterward I felt like I could face the fact that the man I had loved so much and had so much respect and faith in could betray me. I love and hate this movie.

What was that Alice Ayres thing at the end of the movie? Did that mean Natalie Portman's character (Alice) made up that name, and her real name was Jane, or something else?

Anyway, yeah this is a very grating movie. It's pretty well done as in realistic. I think we all know how disgusting lies and deceit get anyway though (not a 93 yo coffee bean like me). The interesting part I guess, was seeing how many lies could get bounced around between 4 people. Sarahdame-- I was watching this with my ex and it was really uncomfortable, haha.

She lied about her name with Jude Law's charachter at the start. Alice Ayers was the name on that plaque in the park, so when she was with Clive Owen and told him her name was Jane she was telling the truth. I suppose it shows that the never really trusted men in the first place. I absolutely loved this movie, the speech when julia roberts tells clive own she's been cheating on him and he tells her to "Fuck off and die you patechic fucked up slag" now thats good dialogue. Who couldnt possibly be riveted by that?

One of the most HONEST movies about sex and betrayal that I have ever seen. The movie brought every disgusting thing that people think and do out into the open. All human beings have a bit of bad in us, some choose to act upon it and others not. I think that is what the film illustrated. For example: at Anna's photo exhibition, Natalie and Clive's characters meet for the first time and they oviously have a connection, but they choose not to act on it. Further in the movie Alice/Jane even says: "There's always a second"... Unfortunately I had a person close to me that cheated, and the way in which the actors portrayed that pain was very accurate - I feel.

I agree with Too Smart for a nickname, Clive Owen's words to Julia's character is pretty powerful! When he said those words I just wanted to jump up and scream: ": Yeah! Take that you bitch!!"

Yea it's such an accurate movie that it's actually scary, for anyone who has been in a messed up relationship it's like plucking the situation out of real life.

Loved Jude Law's charachter the most, he's so sensitive yet doesn't see the wrong he's doing by cheating on Natalie Portman's charachter. He's just so wimpy but I do feel for him at the end. . . . . i'm gonna get some comments for saying that right!!!

Too right youll get some comments for that!! I wonder if old Judy went off with his nanny to take in the experience for his role. It didnt do him much good in my opinion as he gets acted off the screen by Clive Owen.

I still cant believe this was written by Patrick Marber of Coogan/Paul Calf fame. Some people have way too much talent.

Best thing about this movie was the Song by Damien Rice called The Blowers Daughter. Good movie though if you like sex, deceipt, cheating and such. Good performances by Natalie Portman and Julia Roberts. Wow Julia Roberts gets quite graphic in her descriptions of sex... very intense. In fact lots of intense scenes in this movie

I liked the made up name Alice Ayers, and the fact her real name was jane, despite the scene to the contrary. Not too many positive things about this movie you have to be able to sit through the betrayal... urgh
