It seems it will be the best movie on 2005, much more than Star Wars 3, Sin city or kingdom of heaven. I hope it won't be dissapointly because their director, Burton, is a truly genious.

...as well as Burton's fine pick of J. Depp

>>By giambotta   (Sunday, 17 Apr 2005 00:31)

This movie is gonna be awesome... i mean, it's a new type of role for Depp...one that none of us have seen before. we've seen the pirate, the psycho, the poor guy named Edward with scissors, and others, but not the wise, crack-up dude who owns a chocolate factory! i think my most fave part of the movie already will be the Oompa Loompa Anthem; i just LOVE it! :) lol but back to reality, Burton is a splendid director...i'm sure he'll fulfill his excellent duties once again to appease his ever so eager audiences worldwide!

Luv,
Natalie~~~

I love jd ........ esp in edward scissor hands !
Burton and Depp put together is heven !

I love the original of this movie and I can't wait to see the remake. Tim Burton is an awesome director, just look at A Nightmare Before Christmas!! And Johnny Depp, I love him. Haven't they worked together before, in Sleepy Hollow?

>>By Wednesday   (Monday, 20 Jun 2005 03:05)

And the best thing about the new film - no singing!
Writer Roald Dahl was said to have hated the original version, but his widow says he would have liked this one, much closer to the book, which is very dark, and more about Wonka than the kids.

>>By horliks   (Monday, 27 Jun 2005 20:10)

No singing ... that makes it all the more awesome. The singing kind of got annoying at parts ... like do you really sing about it if you "got a golden ticket" ... ?

this film looks good i want to see it i have read it on book and everything but i want to see it

An Evil Girl, "But i do admit JD dose look a bit creepy in this movie" - That was the plan ;)

Wednesday; sorry, I'm not trying to be nitpicky, but "I love the original of this movie and I can't wait to see the remake. Tim Burton is an awesome director, just look at A Nightmare Before Christmas!! And Johnny Depp, I love him. Haven't they worked together before, in Sleepy Hollow?"

Two things wrong with that. 1. It's not a remake of the original movie. The original movie was an adaptation of the story, and so is this one. It's just another adaptation, not a remake. It's supposed to be nothing like the first film.
2. Tim Burton did not direct The Nightmare Before Christmas, Henry Selick did. Tim wrote and produced it.

You're right, they worked together on Sleepy Hollow. Actually they also worked together on Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood too (both of which are *great*), then there's going to be this one, and then also they're working on The Corpse Bride together. Danny Elfman also did all of the music on these films also. Cool eh?

Johnny Depp did very well. The Umpa Lumpas are a different story. It was more believable, but too creepy. I feel it's a toss up between the old and new one. By the way, Star Wars was and will always be the best movie of the year.

>>By White Light   (Tuesday, 19 Jul 2005 16:58)

Well you can't say that until the end of the year. For me it's between Star Wars and Batman Begins.

But yeah, this film look brilliant and I can't wait. But I'll lap up anything by Mister Burton.

>>By Flagg   (Wednesday, 20 Jul 2005 00:08)

"you shouldn't really mumble!" haha, all i have to say is the new version is brilliant. no one should compare it with the older version since it is based on the book, unlike its predecessor. oh, how i heart burton. but don't get me wrong, the first one is a classic.

I am probably one of the few that HATED the "original". I hated those orange faced oompah Loompahs, I hated Gene Wilders character, I hated the boat ride scene, I hated how mean Gene Wilder got in the end and then suddenly turned nice again (remember that scene?) ...to be fair, I was raised by a manic mother who often had mood swings so maybe it struck a nerve with me.

I saw this new film rather reluctantly last night with my 6 year old. I LOVED it. I loved Johnny Depp, I loved all of it. I would like to erase the original from my memory.

The film wasnt all that great the new songs were aweful but then again only the oompaloompa songs and the candy forest song thingy was good in the original. Personally the main highlight of this movie for me was Wonka walking into the elevator, that was even funny both times which is really impressive.

went to see it 2 days ago. i love j.d. it is a wierd film, I will have to watch it again to make my mind up!

>>By scarletnikki   (Thursday, 4 Aug 2005 23:43)

it was terrible

>>By sexkitten   (Monday, 8 Aug 2005 20:31)

Was very disappointing. Depp was wasted in this movie. The sets were cheap and cheerful.. and what happenned to all the original oompaloombas... they have been computer generated 1x100 of the same little man. The script was souless. Remakes, huh, who'd have'em!?

>>By Nubana   (Tuesday, 9 Aug 2005 14:38)

By the way I loved the singing in the original as it was a muscial and really looked forward to Veruca Salt and dem oopalumpmas strutting their stuff in nifty dance routines, alas it was all a bit empty

>>By Nubana   (Tuesday, 9 Aug 2005 14:43)

this film was hilarious and stupid in a good way i would recomend it a thousand times over

>>By sex dog123   (Thursday, 11 Aug 2005 15:46)

I reckon the film was not exactly epic. I mean, there were some funny parts such as "seriously, stop mumbling!", and when Wonka calls that girl's father weird. But there were times when I wish the film would end. It seemed to drag on a bit. The German boy, to be fair, was also funny.

But I think many of us are neglecting the fact that this was a PG movie which took a younger audience's tastes into consideration. The humour was light, not hysterical. Charlie was a nice hero, although some moments were cringing ("I don't think i'm going to get a ticket, I only get a chocolate bar on my birthday, and thats once a year..." - the cinema uproared in laughter, honestly.) And Johnny Depp's character had to pull off a good performance (which he did) so as not to be associated with any MJ type.

What was really captivating about this version/adaption (and I agree with you xfadetobrightx about it not being a remake of the original), were the spectacular computer graphics which created some of those incredible scenes. The Oompa Loompas were strange but a bit funnier than the first version.

Probably wouldn't watch it again.

omg this film rocks!! i liked the old version when i was a kid...but this kicks ass! depp is amazing in it! i have to watch it again. theres a few phrases which have stuck in my head and i giggle to myself now and again. amazing film...burton is a genius and so is depp. cant wait to get it on dvd. brilliant!!

>>By molkos_lover   (Sunday, 14 Aug 2005 16:43)

mathu has said it all for me. and depp kicks ass.

>>By Eli_Molko   (Thursday, 1 Sep 2005 02:30)

The acting was superb, and the film was terrible. The writing was bad, the visuals were bad, the directing was bad, the editing was bad...I mean...there wasn't much redeemable about the film except for Depp's performance. And even then, I hated the character, he made Wonka look dumb, naive, and creepy, while the book and the older movie made him look more like a fun adult, the new movie made him look like an overgrown kid.

>>By pgrmDave   (Saturday, 8 Oct 2005 06:09)

I agree I didnt really enjoy the movie, the acting though was great but other then that and watching Depp walk into a glass elevator twice (which he did beautifully and to my suprise was funny both times and still amazes me how well he pulled it off) there was no real redeemable parts. The Oompa Loompas and their songs just made me want to cry that or rip out my eyes and plug them into my ears.

>>By Billy Pilgrim   (Saturday, 15 Oct 2005 04:18)

the first one was deffinately better

pgrmDave, I must concur. ~Lorna Pryor of Waco Texas
ps, very well put.

I finally saw this movie. I thought it was great. Depp did a great job. The line about cannabalism...was hysterical. I loved how he really hated kids, especially when his remark to the science kis was."I can't hear you when you mumble". At the end when he walks into the glass door.. I know it's been done before, but he pulled it off so well. Depp and Burton...a great pair.
