This movie is one of the wonderful movies.
The novel is a warm and gentle story about a philosofer in the image of a lonely marine biologist with a love for beer and woman. And about a small community of people on the fringe of sivilisation.
Steinbeck is a master of his craft.

one of the most underrated movies i have ever seen and believe me ihave seen alot of them it is very well written and easy to watch without a bad scene in it you can count on one hand how many movies i can say that about with fingers left over actually there are three movies i can recomend without a shred of doubt first is paul newmans "nobodys fool" an outstanding movie two is "father goose" cary grant as nice guy unshaven drunk and third is cannery row all three are as close to flawless as i have seen and ill bet most of you havent seen all three that is how underratted and how in my opinion wrong the publiic can be   (Monday, 21 Apr 2003 00:22)

This is the movie that got me to go read steinbeck's book Cannery Row. I loved the book and also the movie except there were very different. The movie was much more surprising and had a textured multiple storyline while the book was pure enojyment and prose about real people in a real time in california. both movie and book are must see for literary fans!

the movie is so bad and is totally different from the book. it lacks depth and is so hokey. if you like crap disguised as some amazing adaptation then see this film if you want the real thing read the book or just ignore it all together.
