| Discussion: Vidoq I found Vidoq as a total failure.Actually it's source and the forming point is brilliant and very impressive but not creative.The climax point in the movie was really awakening.But;nonetheless it's not sufficient to save the movie.Even the eminent acting of Gerard depardieu seems vain.And the cliche French sexualism in the front style was irritating time to time.Actually the movie can be thought as some sort of crisps.I was totally disappointed. >>By Colette I really liked the movie cos it was a great success.It was totally amazing! >>By Albert failure of French cinema again! >>By Matthew i found the very interesting cause you could see represented France in those ages of depressing ambience. They are very similar in the sence that they have this fairy tale/dream feeling about them. And of course the atmosphere. I loved the film. I don't see how you can possibly call it a failure as a whole. Perhabs a failure as a "murder mistery" cuz you could guess the antagonist half way through (though I doubt anyone expected Vidoq to actually survive). Not that this makes it less worth watching - even for the sheer visual enjoyment. The colours and the camera work are quite outstanding. Acting aint bad either. He might have been in some less fortunate movies in the long run, but also in some brilliant (For example Martin Guerre, 1492, 1900 etc.. etc..). He has proved that he is a skilled actor and he been in wide variety of films. Vidoq is fresh blow to french cinema along with movies like La haine, City of the lost children, the pact, assasin, dobberman... All i can say is thank god that we have these alternatives to actors like Kenau Reeves, Leonardo diCaprio, Ben Affleck Žand patronizing propaganda movies like Tripple X, Black Hawk down, Under Siege 1, 2, 3, 4,..., the Patriot (where everything is black and white) Some people didŽnt grow up choking on a mcDonalds Happy Meal... Some people like to make their own opinions...
