For me it was ok, but I expected more, definitely. I mean, it really was ok, but, I couldn't feel the connection between V and her.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I read a few articles on it and it sounds like a very interesting movie. The conceptual points are really interesting, especially since the novel that this is based off was written so long ago. It seems like it was just written now, in modern times because it all seems to be a dramatized veil of whats really happening now. Its not like we're living in complete fear of our government, more like doubt and loathing, and its not like we have ratical freedom fighters, but we have got anti-war protest break-outs, especially recently due to the 3rd year anniversary of our invasion of Iraq.

A fetish 1984. The irony being this film is made/distributed by a big studio, so it's a sanitised/Hollywood revolution, ie make sure you look good if you want to make that rebellion work.

Hmmmm, a spooky paralell of Nazi Germany or is it a commentary about Herr Bush?

In the preface to the book, Alan Moore mentions that he based his dystopia on an extrapolation of a liberal victory in an early '80s GB general election; a near global nuclear conflict w/ Britain escaping the worst because of the removal of missiles and then in the subsequent chaos, a fascist (in the classic linkage between industry and a unitary and totalitarian state power) regime gaining the upper hand. The graphic novel is excellent and I thought, that given the density of subplots that exist in the book, that the movie did a very good job of: A. stripping the book to the essentials needed to make a "sensible" movie; B. cleverly updating the vocabulary and references to pertain to current events (esp. the Orwellian discussion of how language gets turned inside out...ie. "extraordinary rendition" in the service of bad faith, in all senses of the word. Umm the not-quite romance between V and Evey is v. important in the book, as well as in the movie.
