Mitchum at his best. I pity DeNiro
in the sequel, though he did a superb job
as lunatic Max.
btW-that's a tiny studio set arranged by Charles Laughtin.

I too love this movie. Robert Mitchum sure could play creepy guys.
"Chiiillll-dren!" Shame to learn that it was a flop in its time and criticized so heavily. But that tends to be the case with great films. I mean, the same was true with Citizen Kane.
