Pshawn, or is it simply, "Shawn"? :)

Anyway, I think it's v. cool of you to post on the board for other fans. Are you, by chance, a friend of Prod. Grant Major who also worked on 'LOTR' and 'Whale Rider'?

Curiously,
JMS

>>By JessicaMae

It's not even shawn :) it's just a nick... and not my regular one I'm usually Voltron on the countingdown.com forum. I'm not a friend of Grant Major. I am friends with one of the unlisted producers. But after they announce who they are I'll let you know who it is. I don't want anyone to know at the moment.
Lets just say they arn't famous yet.
I am just as much a fan as the next person though. I ask lots of questions too. I just don't think it would be ethical of me to just openly share everything I know without others finding out about them first and spreading the rumour for a while before it is confirmed!

All,

First off, I'd like to point out that the White Witch is a "young woman."

I have always invisioned her in her mid twenties due to the fact that throughout The Magicians Nephew she is addressed/described as "young woman" and "young lady." Even when I was a child, as long ago as that was, I thought of her as a quite terrible young lady.

After Jadis eats the fruit in the The Magicians Nephew she is given everlasting youth. Hence, when she happens upon Narnia later and submerges the world in Winter, she is still young -- A facade of cold youth, as it were.

Therefore, all the actors being discussed for the role, in my opinion, are too old. (On other boards you will find such talk of Anjelica Houston, Renee Russo, Michelle Phifer, Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman.) I find it much more jaring and interesting if she looks young, yet her soul, and "deplorable" wickedness are aged and experienced. I also find it more interesting to a child if the evil Queen is younger and less stereotypical witch.

It would do my heart good to see a new actor recruited for this role, especially as she will most likely be required to appear in 'The Magicians Nephew' as Jadis, (should Walden indeed produce the rest of the Chronicles.)

I too have seen the fan buzz on other internet message boards about Jessica Stover taking on this role. (Saw her in an acting show case -- Perfect.) I would also support this casting decision. Perhaps Walden is taking notice. If you want to talk more about this, please reply on this board. It is probably one of the more decent boards on the subject and therefore I will return to read responses. And, might I say to you, Ms. Jessica, that you have quite the loyal fan base rooting you on. How splendid that must feel!

To you, PShawn, I am curious where Walden is with casting? I believe last I heard that the UK director casting the children was on holiday so I might guess that has been put on hold. However, where are we with the adults? Perhaps you should take it upon yourself to alert your producer friend of the buzz around Ms. Stover.

My understanding from my friend is that he will be taking part in the auditioning process and the final selection of the cast. the time line he gave was 2004 very broad.
I have given him this link in the past as a general interest thing to show him what some of the fans have been saying. I don't know if he still checks it but he did a month ago. as far as Jessica Stover goes I have no idea who she is and neither does google! but I'd be interested in seeing her.
I hope you can beath some life in here Larry it seems you too have some cantacts!

>>By Pshawn

Pshawn,

Excellent! Thanks for responding. Hopefully the board will get more lively as time goes by. All of the other boards I've seen on the topic are out of control so I'm hoping that this one will be a hidden gem of discussion.

Stover turns up on google when I search, but there's not exactly loads of stuff about her online off of the AOL service yet. Let me see if I can find some information for you over the weekend and I'll post it on the board.

>>By Larry

Thanks man. I am on the yahoo board and the countingdown board under different nicks and they are getting pretty dodgy it is true!

>>By Pshawn

My apologies, I've been and still am on holiday. Will serve up some information soon. Have you heard anything new about casting/preproduction?

>>By Larry

I think it's great they're making a newer LWW! (They are, right??) I love CS Lewis....he is a great author, I totally respect him! He's like, my role model, (him and JRR Tolkkein...) Anyway, yeah, Jess would be GREAT for Jadis...she could really look the part (no offense, Jess!) Anyway, just thought I'd put in my two cents' worth!

>>By hockeypuckz09

If the makers of LWW take any cues from Peter Jackson, et al. (and it seems they have since they're using Weta Workshop), the film will be outstanding.

>>By Semolina Pilchard

Heh it's funny that you mention that Semolina... I have heard some stuff about those that are associated with the film and I'm sure everyone will be more than excited about it. I'll just keep that under my hat for now.

>>By Pshawn

i am absolutely enthralled by the narnia chronicles and would give my right arm to be in any of the films.
since i was small i have always wanted to play the part of susan, go thrrough the back of the wardrobe
and into a whole new world....i was wondering, pshawn if there was anybody i could contact, for casting,
i live in london and it would be greatly appreciated. nice to have found such an interesting board.
see you all around soon,
fea

>>By fealena

Well I don't know anything of the specifics yet. After January I should know more and I will try to let you know if I can. At this stage I am a little in the dark until I see my friend again but I expect to be in close contact after then. I am sure though that there are many on this thread alone who would give both their right arms :P to be in this me included. I think you will just have to be patient, get a casting agent and a lot of practice because these people are after raw tallent and someone who will be in it for the long haul!
If anyone wants to try to bribe me... I will accept bribes but I have no way to deliver anything at all :)
If you want to get in touch with me individually I will be happy to chat but I can only do that for now!

>>By Pshawn

I agree that the mythic "White Witch" should be a young actor in her early-mid twenties. This would be true to the character and the fans' expectations. I also think it would be nice to have someone talented that hasn't yet "broken". Probably a young lady with a solid theater background and good character skills since the witch is a definite archetype.

I've heard of Jessica Stover around town. She actually auditioned for a friend of mine who said she was quite good. I've also seen her headshot and resume. She has a huge following, (which can't hurt,) a theater background and she fits the part so I would be surprised if they did not have her read. (Assuming the circumstances are favorable and they are aware of her existence, of course.)

This is an interesting board. It's become almost industry with all of the seeming connections. I will be sure to come back.

thanks pshawn. ill be around and if anyone wants to contact me, my email is littlemissbossy2000@hotmail.com

>>By fealena

If anyone needs to contact me thegreatpshawn@hotmail.com is where i can be reached! I am sure that these movies will be some of the highest grossing films of all time!

>>By Pshawn

I think Jessica Mae Stover would be an excellent choice for the role of the White Witch. She is young enough and from what I hear of her background as an actress and where she has studied, she would know exactly how to portray the character. The fact that she is a long time fan of the Narnia series is a great bonus.

Jessica- I am a big fan of your AOL Crushes and I found out about this board from your away message on AOL. Please reply! Good luck with the part.

>>By alexa

Hi,

First of all Jess is a good person and strives to meet her goals in life, secondly I too agree she could play the White Witch. I have not read the books in a very long time, but this forum makes me want to read them again. Pshawn you are right you don't know Ms Stover, but to me you shouldn't count her out just on that fact. I watch her videos when I can on AOL, however if you don't use AOL then it is hard to see who she really is.

Jess- I hope you get the part, hop life is well. I don't know if I helped at all, but any how if you look at my profile on here you will know why I said what I did.

Best Wishes,
MovieMan

I found a link to here on Jessica's away message, and just thought I show some support.

Not to be rude to anyone but I quite enjoy this being a nice quiet out of the way place that noone but us rabits knows about. I'm not discouraging you all to spread the word that were here but I don't want to turn this into a Jessica Stover worship page!Sorry If this sounds a bit rude. I'm just trying to keep it on topic in here!
By the way... LWW is cool :P

>>By Pshawn

We are not making it that, just trying to help her.

>>By MovieMan

Tru dat, Pshawn...

BUT I thought we were talking about casting here. Since the kids will all be unknown British kids, I don't feel like talking about that until they are casted.
All the other characters but the Professor and Mrs. Macready are animals. And the Prof and Mrs. Mac aren't really in the story much so they'e not that intersting to talk about. I'm most interested in who the white witch will be and I don't want to talk about anything else but casting now. I think thats why wer'e talking about Jess; we think she should at least get a shot at the witch. On other boards they are talking about others actresses rumored to be interested; like Larry said a few posts ago; so I don't see why we shouldn't talk about who we want.
unless you've got updates for us? you know more then we all do. All we can say is that we we are looking fwd to seeing the movies and hope they are done right. Casting is a big part of the picture for fans so Its expected to be on our minds.
And everyone Jess probably wont read this board b/c shes got boards on AOL and shes really busy so maybe we should just keep to posting about the movie, if we think shes good for the role, who else we might like for the roles and if there ever is any; news on the production stuff instead of posting sides to her. Granted, she is more likly to read it then any other celeb but i hate how people post that stuff on other boards; all i can think is Elijah Woods not going to actually see that, ya idiot! You get my point.
This board is cool, its definitely a sort of secret so that rocks.

>>By NarniaFanDan

True I don't want to seem harsh and your right I just feel left out because I have never heard of this chick apart from things relating to this board.
Anyway tis all good. From what I've heard the plan is for a lot of CG in this one so there will be a lot of voice acting like you say and no real acting but some of the major players will be real actors like the beavers and other some other creatures. I personally would love to see a guy dressed up in a giant wolf suit... I don't know that that will happen :P
There are always characters that have small neglected parts that will play larger roles in the scripted version of the books. Anyway I have had my say. I'm gonna sit in the corner and pretend to be a tee stump.

>>By Pshawn

Hey guys!

I have major first hand news! (Sorry PShawn, it's got Jessica Stover in it but it's also related to many things and I have questions for ya so read on!)...............

ok so I went to dinner with my Dad at this place called Pinot in Hollywood and I saw Jessica Stover there! She was sitting with an older biz type man so my Dad said I probably shouldnt talk to her and I agreed with him so I didnt. After dinner we walked across the street to have desert at Baskin Robbins and she came in by herself! I went up to talk to her and get this:: she had two books and a notebook in her hand. The two books were LWW and The Magicians Nephew! Ive been reading this board off and on so I decided to ask her about the LWW and if she was auditioning for the white witch. She said that her agent had been in touch with Pippa Hall and that Pippa Hall said that she is only casting the children and that a casting director for the adults has not been assigned yet. I asked her if it was Leo Davis and she said no Leo isn't working on the adults. Then she said that her agent said (sorry keep up) that Pippa isn't even doing anymore work on the children until January because theyll have changed to much between now and filming. Guess thats good for any of you hopefulls out there that want to be Peter, Lucy etc etc etc. And get this next she told me that Pippa told her agent that THE WHITE WITCH MIGHT JUST BE VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!! What is that?!!? I will be REALLY pissed if that is how they do the movie! That's just stupid! Pshawn dude can you get us some information on that front. Finally Jessica insisted on buying me and my dad's icecream (she was so awesome and answered like zillions of my questions) plus when I kept pressing her about the books she had and the witch she even did a monologue for me!!!!!! As the witch!!!! It was AWESOME!!!! It wasn't that crowded but there were still people in the 31 flavors and she did it anyway. Everyone clapped! Shes totally not scared of anything. I would do anything I could to get her a reading for the witch because I was blown away. BLOWN AWAY I TELL YOU. She said shes going to make a tape and send it in and that shes hopeful. If I was an actor Id want to be just like her. I'm not a pro or anything but I know a good character when I see one. ok that was way looooong but hopefully informational. good luck everyone and take care.

>>By DangerKeri

PS: Pshawn your not a stump! Youre like the star poster on this board because you have all the information. ive been reading your posts for a few months. If you find out more about the role of the witch and the adult casting director I will love you forever1!!!!!!!!!!!!

>>By DangerKeri

Ok I'll try :) thanks for the compliment and don't get the wrong Idea I'm not annoyed about teh JS thing. I'm just ticked that I havn't seen her myself. I'm just as much of a fan as the next person. don't worry I'll try to get you something though I won't promise incase i get into trouble. Well this supports what I've heard exactly I'm still having somethings cleared up. I did speak to my mate last week and he said he'd call me back. he did but I was out and I havn't caught him since. It's strange to think that some people actually work hard :P
that's a great scoop I'm keen to see her soon. I kinda wish she would read this.
on another note i just read this on Darkhorizons.com

"The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe: Mukmouth just received an official press release for the Narnia Chronicles film adaptation which is confirmed to be following in the steps of the LOTR trilogy - ie. shooting in New Zealand and with the help of the WETA FX crew: "The project is set to be filmed in Hobsonville, Auckland New Zealand. New Zealand born Director Andrew Adamson of Shrek fame will be filming almost all of the film at the Hobsonville Airbase and the Defence Quarters located there. The South Island will give up its identity of Middle Earth, as it will be the new star of Narnia. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe will feature a largely American cast and production is to start sometime next year, with a December 2005 release for the USA and New Zealand. Surprisingly enough, Peter Jackson's King Kong will be released in cinemas also in December 2005 - so there will be two New Zealand epics battling off! The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe will be the second US film to qualify for the New Zealand government's new film grants scheme. The first film to qualify was Boogeyman, a horror movie from the producer of Spider-Man, Sam Raimi. Special Effects Studio WETA, who have done all effects for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy will do effects for both King Kong and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". For a detailled map of the locations where filming will take place, check out the site's news section. Thanks to 'Ryan' &'Alex'."

I havn't seen this release but It's not from the oficial sites,Narnia.com or Walden.com

after doing some digging this doesn't apear to be a legitimate press release at all but a release about a show that mentioned these things and then had them taken out of context. These are still partly assumptions though some of it is fact and I am very confident that DangerKeri is spot on with what stover has said! Good job but next time have Jessica send me an email :P

I think I'm slowly being converted to a fan just through the hype and I've never seen a proper picture :)

Give me a heads up if you hear anything everyone and I'll let you know what's going on when I get updated!

>>By Pshawn

Oh and I'll be very VERY suprized if the which isn't an actress!!! as far as I'm aware there will be lots of CG but as much human acting as possible too!

>>By Pshawn

Pshawn,
Either you're a phony or you just don't know your facts (and your spelling!!). The Chronciles of Narnia WERE NOT written in Chronological order, as you stated. Also you should get a dictionary because you wanted the word witch rather than which.
Blessings,
Pete <><

>>By Pete777

Sorry for the spelling and if I'm not making myself clear when I refer to the chronological order. When I refer to that I am refering to the order they were writen not the order they appear in the book collections. When you are writing at 3am in the morning then I am sure you may understand my mental slipups. Sorry if this doesn't suit your born again tastes but we all share the same books and were all trying to have a good time discussing what we enjoy so if it doesn't suit you and you feel the need to complain about silly things like spelling then please don't do it publicly just send a private message to me and say your peace otherwise please keep it on topic. And I'm not bagging on your religion I'm sure that as christians people enjoy the deeper meanings of Lewis and his books.
On that topic I have an article on the Australian stage production of LWW that will be touring I found it interesting that the director didn't focus on the christian principles and symbols used in the books. It will be interesting to see the direction that the director of the movie will try to take as one of the producers is a very commited christian. But please let's not go down the path of religion and the possibilities. I'm not against it I am aware though that it will cause no end of contention. Pete777 Thankyou for the heads up and sorry everyone I am not the achedemic I try to look like :P

>>By Pshawn

News just in the first of the principles has been cast. I don't have any more details but casting has begun! If your not hearing about it from your agent your not paying enough money :P
The word is that they are going very Poterish by sticking to traditional english type actors to keep it true to Lewis' vision.
