One of the sweetest movies ever. Wonderful acting performance, colorful cinematography, brilliant direction, and melodramatic storyline will make this movie one your best. I can guarantee that you will like this movie. Grade "A."

I thought this movie was great! It had a very strong plot and good characterization. Amelie is one of the most original charachters ever and I am sure we can all realate to her.

yeah but dont you think this movie touches on the idea that to truly help other people you must understand yourself and the motives behind it all

so nice. it's nice to see a French movie where their voices don't get to me. My Vie en Rose relly bugged me.

Does anyone know the phrase that Amelie says to the train conductor guy, from the book she's reading? (the book from the author from the coffee shop)

the quote, as written on the wall at the end of the movie :
"Sans toi, les émotions d'aujourd'hui ne seraient que la peau morte des émotions d'autrefois." HIPOLITO
"Without you, today's emotions will only be the dead skin of yesterday's emotions."
Sorry if the translation is not perfect, but English is not my first language (neither is French).

what a wonderful world it must be...

I saw it last night, I thought that it was wonderful. I'd seen Delicatessen, a movie by the same director, and loved it, although Delicatessen was much darker. Amelie was just totally sweet, but not sacharrine with it. Loved it to bits. It's great how Jeunet can really switch genres, he was the director of Alien resurrection as well. It gave Hollywood a little edge of Gallic surrealism.

this is, most definitely, my favorite movie in the world, because it changes your perception of the world and how you affect it.

>>By delicatedancer   (Monday, 19 Jan 2004 02:42)

So realistic, unpretentious and so romantic...if only there were many other Amelie's in the world.I'm gonna buy this movie on DVD.Its a must for my collection.

Hang on but what about the violation of personal space that the glass man discusses? Don't get me wrong, I adore this movie, but i think that it's much darker than most realise...

>>By mebaroo   (Friday, 30 Jan 2004 15:48)

its not a dark movie. its a wonderful bright movie with one dark part from a sad dark man that throughout the movie becomes just as happy as Amelie.

I like the part in which her entire life changes, and on the tv princess diana dies and thats not the life changing part its the false tile that hides a childs box. This is mainly because ive never quite known why her death was such a big deal. As the onion say "Princess daina dies as she lived, in incredible plushness." I think it my be that she was the only member of the royal family that wasnt extremely ugly.

you've all said every reason why i love this movie and why i just adore amelie.

but the best thing that amelie's ever taught me is how to write backwards, a la da Vinci in the Da Vinci Code.

>>By katasonja   (Saturday, 30 Apr 2005 03:29)

hmmm and here i thought it was my dyslexia that taught me that

>>By Billy Pilgrim   (Monday, 2 May 2005 04:46)

if it was dyslexia that made me write in such fascinating fashion, then i would have had little control over that.

>>By katasonja   (Tuesday, 3 May 2005 15:22)

Beautiful movie.
One of those films you can watch repeatedly because every shot is filled with so much attention to detail.
Visually perfect.
some stunning bits of acting.
Heart warming story-just love it.

i must be the only person who hates this movie, as all the Jean-Pierre Jeunet films... :P.... "girl in the ticket window!!! return me my 5.70 € of the ticket film!!!!. I was deceived by a frivolous critic!!! :("

>>By Jim_Hawkins   (Wednesday, 16 Nov 2005 14:03)

why don't you like it?

>>By katasonja   (Wednesday, 18 Jan 2006 11:11)

Over rated film once again. Just because it's french it's got to be good. First of all the green filter thingy; WHATS WITH THE FILTERS ?! I hate it when people use filters in their films because it's such an easy cinematical device. The story was rubbish and too neurotically french for my taste. French films generally are way too over rated because most of the time they're very esthetic-orientated. It's vapid with no substance, just like modern french literature; pretty words, pretty people, pretty devices, pretty sentences, pretty music, pretty places (they call it "poudre aux yeux") etc etc. But nothing substancial and interesting.

>>By hadji baba   (Friday, 27 Jan 2006 17:15)

The film is ok but I cant help thinking that its mainly a device for people to see their own neurosis as cute, adorable and funny whereas in reality it is painful and lonely. So it is just pandering to people misguided self-perceptions.
