Discussion: Talk To Her

i'd heard good, good things about almodovar movies. . .

but i had not expected to be so moved. talk to her is so beautiful and emotional and creepy at the same time. . .

i also loved the little silent movie within the movie. it was quite charming.

i'd recomment talk to her to just about anyone i know and i can't wait to get to his other movies!

I watched this movie when it was out few years back and although i don't remember everything, some of the details are still vivid in my memory. The corrida scenes were stunning, the way the matador gets dressed. Almodovar uses very little dialogue and leaves the rest to facial expressions, the eyes etc. A masterpiece by a genius director.

This has to be one of Almodovar's best. This was also one of his few movies where the men were protagonists. I loved the giant vagina scene in the mini-movie - so amusing. But, best of all, I loved the dance scenes. I have become a Pina Bausch fan because of this movie (she does the choreography). In fact, I flew to New York last month for Bausch's company's performance of Bamboo Blues and must now conclude that she is the greatest living avant garde choreographer (gotta see Cafe Meuller one of these days). Almodovar also turned me onto some great music - Luz Casal (the real voice behind the singing in High Heels -- "Piense a mi") and the legend, Caetano Veloso. For Veloso, I can't remember which film it was, but there is a scene where he sings "Cucuru, La Paloma" on guitar and its enchanting.
