Requiem For A Dream

Forum

very well made I love the way it shows the many forms of addictions that we face sex, drugs, and weight lose the director did a great job in making the book come alive on the screen.

A very well thought through movie. Scares me to know that I know some people like that and they made a movie that just diplayed their life. I want all of you to know, wether you like the movie or not, it gives you a good grasp of what were to happen if you were in their shoes. Many people I know say there's no plot...well there is, you have to look beyond the surface of the characters in the movie. Not saying your shallow or anything, but there's more to the movie than just an hour and 42 min. Theres a life to it. It becomes you!

were do I begin? Oh yeah, there is nowhere to begin just an overall view is fear! I never thought it to be that great, but it was. My life seems to be put in that movie which scares me. My Doc. told me to write out my feelings so i am. This movie has shown me that drugs aren't the way out...just a way in. Ever since i was...well not needed to know...i based my life on drugs. Im slowing getting off, and seeing the characters in the movie struggling to survive makes me wanna scream you can do it! Just like me...but its difficult. I just wanna say to everyone that 1) don't do drug's in the first place. 2) Love everyone and 3) I hope that you can help anyone just like ME!

This movie goes beyond the lives of those four people. It dives right into the heart of society and it's perception of drug users. Not to mention the portayal of a game show that is about nothing yet captivating so many lost souls and delivering empty promises, and we are all the sheep represented in that show. Another aspect was the shot at the practice of medicine and how doctors are not giving the average person the time that is truly needed to correct physical problems. Here real issues are addressed. Aronofsky hits on all cyliders in this movie. It is disturbing, captivating, and real. It is a movie that forces you to ask questions about yourself. There can be no greater achievement in art.

This movie hit home in two many ways for me. I had a relationship with someone that mirrored Jennifer and Jaret's in the movie - only with coke instead of heroin. We disintigrated in much the same way (ok, I still have all my limbs). I also take dexedrine every day for ADHD so Sara's character also hit home. I hated my friend Ian for making me watch this movie and in fact walked out. It wasn't until my feelings subsided a bit that I went back and watched it again...and again...and again. I think the fact that it disturbed me so much is a testament to the film's (and book's, I suppose) power. Requiem for a Dream made me grateful that we have the power to create - even if the stories we tell aren't happy endings.

I don't know much about drugs from personal experience and in some ways the film made me feel i live a sheltered life. I am no stranger to addiction, mental illness and pain but not to the horrifying extremes that the film goes to. I was left disturbed by the film and it has stayed in my mind for days creating a never ending thought process where i ponder from the literal to the philosophical and psychological interpretations of the images depicted. I think such portrayals of drug use are neccessary because it can be glossed over and hidden so easily. The one thing that struck me was the contrasting drug addictions and how one is accepted and the other considered so repugnant when they both boil down to the same thing. Also the idea that people who are "crazy" aren't perhaps as crazy as society leads us to believe - all society's casualties get hidden away with their failed lives and ambitions denied even of existence. The film makes you think and it makes you glad and inspired to put right the things u have control over in an effort to avoid falling as the characters in the film did.

The first time I watched this movie, it was all I thought about for days. I was very disturbed by the movie, but decided to watch it again, I think it shows the effects of small addictions and what people's lives may become if they do not control their addictions. Parts of the movie though seemed a little far-fetched because not everyone, especially people that are connected, become so involved in their problems that there is really no way out, because chances are one of them would have stopped when the others kept going.

I've shown this movie to my pupils (seventeen year-olds). Some people thought I was crazy, but it did exactly what I wanted it to do: open their eyes and shock them just thoroughly enough. I don't think they got nigtmares, but they woke up alright.

If y'all dug this you gotta' check out "Spun". Title track in the opening sequence is sick "Number of the Beast" by Zwan. The movie itself is not as visceral as Requiem but still has the drug theme. Aronofsky must've said, "shit, i've bummed alot of fucking people out."

It left me with that feeling you have while scoring and you had to wait in the car while your buddy went in and had to do the obligatory sit down bullshit feign friendship thing with his dealer before asking what he had. I fucking hated that. But that feeling of anticipation was there...

Totally bummed me out.

The hardest thing about watching this movie is that there are no likeable characters in this movie. I have to agree with Sexibeast about "Spun", it was way more watchable.

Imagine this... Alone, homeless, hungry, angry, crying, looking for a penny to survive...not from the cold or starvation, but from addiction. Cuz when it's time to feed your veins, u know that god has spoken: "give me needles, cuz i no longer care".White is the color my eyes only sees. White is my death, so please step aside and be my martyr to this. You, all of you there. You... hiding behind a screen!I'm talking to you. The needles inside my veins become my friends, my demons and my angels. My bless and my curse.............
This is a story i don't even dare to finish it.... but it costed the life of one of my beloved fellow man. Drugs have no age! That's the meaning of the movie. They have only purpose! You find out what is that purpose......

I was truely inspired by this movie, just because addiction had played such a big role in my life, I took this movie as a warning, you know? This could actually happen to me. I don't want to let it happen of course, but its always a possiblity. So, this movie kind of opened my eyes and made me see how my addictions are so silly and how I shouldn't let myself get too deep into the world of drugs. It can ruin you, even if you're not aware of what its doing to you. A simple pill can kill and you don't even know it until you're on the outside looking in. Sorry if this sounded a little corny, but I really thought this was a movie too good for words. If you knew what it was like, you'd know what I was saying is true.

I understand and agree with you Wednesday...

Wow, what a scary, but honest movie. Was hard to watch though...

>>By Honey Bunny   (Sunday, 18 Jun 2006 17:08)

Ah, I didn't really think it was hard to watch, maybe only because of how truthful it really was. If you liked this movie, go see Trainspotting ... or read the book, Irvine Welsh is a God.

>>By Wednesday   (Sunday, 18 Jun 2006 19:06)

I have read and seen Trainspotting. Loved it!!

The only reason why I felt that it was a bit hard to watch was because I have also seen it happen to people - getting addicted and losing total control over one self. It just hits a bit close to home. You know what I related to the most.... The last scene where the girl exposes herself to those sexual acts... well, straight after that she lays on the couch and stares at her prize (the drugs). Her face shows that she is not exactly happy, more like content, if that is even the right word. It just illustrated to me how far an addict will actually go to get a score. Its scary! Especially for me, 'cause I have an addictive personality and I truly hope something like that ever happens to me!!! But that is just the thing with this movie (and Trainspotting as well), it shows that drugs can take control of your life if you let it.

I loooooved the tune that was playing throughout the movie! It stayed with me for a long time...

>>By Honey Bunny   (Sunday, 18 Jun 2006 22:24)

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER MADE. So hauntingly realistic and artisticly dark and truthful. I relate to it in many ways. The movie itself is an addiction. It should be required viewing for all people.

>>By LastCaress18   (Saturday, 22 Jul 2006 15:01)

i m ok with u lastcarress18, it is really realistic and dark...it is a genuine portrayal of modern life and a depiction of the decadence of mass consumption society...the story of the mother is so touching for me than her son as it shows the diabolic side of psychatric institusion that contributes to enslave people with its mass appeal madness piles.

>>By the haunted   (Sunday, 23 Jul 2006 22:23)

Mindblowing.

Kids, don't do drugs. Adults either.
