| Discussion: Pan'S Labyrinth A fabulous piece of work, you'd do well to find a better film in the last 10 years. It reminds me of A Matter of Life and Death a little, and in some ways as good. Also if you see this at a cinema there wont be any chavs because they cant read (subtitles). btw Have any Spanish speakers seen the film? Does the faun sound funny? Apparently he's English and learnt Spanish in make-up. >>By defacer It's funny when you understand what's being said (I speak Spanish) but there are subtitles provided. You can't help but read the damn things even when you know perfectly well what they're saying. A great companion piece to this flick is Guillermo del Toro's other supernatural tale involving the same setting: "The Devil's Backbone." >>By The Walrus I loved this movie! it was absolutely beautiful! >>By jayulian I enjoyed its morbidity, and dark story. I was surprised with how much death and blood there was, and strong connection with reality, yet it had its share of fantasy as well. The plot has its points but throughout the whole movie I waited to see the wonderful world that the little girl was supposebly a part of, only to see a few moments of it at the end. Not as enchanting as I would have preferred, but it is one of the better films I have seen in some time. >>By MagentaStraberry i feel like it was mismarketed to american audiences, though in fairness, i do not know how it was marketed elsewhere. the backdrop of the war was more than a mere backdrop and ended up being my favorite aspect of the film. i feel like i could feel the mud surrounding the farmhouse and feel the wet press of leaves in the woods. the whole thing was artfully done and exquisite. >>By hypatia This is one of the best movies I've seen in a VERY long time. From the child's perspective it has a story that we areaccustomed with while growing up. The background by which it was set makes it stand off. I'm sure it takes inspiration from many places but I can think of only one film that resembles it, Mirrormask, and Mirrormask is nowhere near as good. The best film I've seen for ages and I'm really glad that so far no one has posted here saying it's overrated or it let them down. >>By Flagg A really satisfying movie. The fantastical bits are very well taken, and i almost find it a pity that children can't watch it. The war story is, i'd say, just as important as the 'fairy tale'.
