Discussion: Metropolitan

I believe all those Jan Austin references in the movie are no accident. Any thoughts?

IThe Jane Austin thing helps to describe Audrey's fantasy ideal which is steadily deconstructed by her exposure to the real world in the form of Tom, who is the outsider --the Westsider-- who is admitted into the fold from which his parents' divorce earlier alienated him. None of the people in the Rat Pack can relate to Tom's economic status, which although he was born to the UHB now sets him apart.
