Mansfield Park

Strickly speaking of this movie as a movie Mansfield Park was a lovely film. The length was appropriate, the story line smooth, and the characters cast perfectly. Beautifully filmed, this movie's mood was a seductive and powerful but also a soft one. Speaking of Mansfield Park as a novel in movie form it has its downfalls. Jane Austen might turn in her grave at some of the "artistic liberty" that was taken. The change in some of the main characters, like the STAR, for example were drastic. The main character, Fanny, had the exact opposite personality in the movie as she has in the book. In the book she is extremely shy in the movie she isn't shy at all. The Uncle, Sir Thomas, is dipicted as vulgar and as a slave owner who occasionally hits on Fanny. Although his character would be historically correct and is reallistic I do not believe Jane Austen would approve. The brother Fanny is close to in the book is not in the movie at all, but looking at it from a screenplay writers point of view he really isn't that necessary. Mr. Crawford, one of Fanny's love interest, is also made out to look to innocent. Some of the order of events are off and some things entirely taken out. These are all mistakes traditionally made by movies based on novels, but I do not like it when classics are butchered. This particular movie is not killing the novel, but it is changing it. As a hard core reader that notices every detail I have to pick out all the mistakes. As a movie watcher I say its definitely worth seeing. The passion of it make you want to have the same friendship and passion in your own life as Fanny has. If your an old romantic watch it.
