My only question is to friendofthefeather, how do you know tomlinson is hitting ninth. he seemed to make well whe he hit, i mean he did hit that near homerun in the playoff game

I am pleased to present the following information. Please be advised that I do not have this movie on DVD...only VHS. So, my ability to investigate this as throughly as I could was hindered by the relatively poor quality of video tape. All of what I provide here can be considered fact since I verified it with my own eyes.

First off, there is no way, to my knowledge, to determine the exact batting order. What I can tell you is the following...

The starting eight by position:

Tomlinson - LF
Hayes - CF
Cerrano - RF
Dorn - 3B
Reyna - SS (See odd notes below)
Larson - 2B
Metcalf/Ward - 1B (See odd notes below)
Taylor - C

The parts of the batting order than can be determined (at least by the playoff game versus the Yankees) is as follows:

1. Hayes
2. Taylor
3. Dorn
4. Cerrano
5. Unknown
6. Unknown
7. Unknown
8. Unknown
9. Tomlinson

The Team (by uniform number):
00 - WIllie Mays Hayes, CF
7 - Jake Taylor, C
8 - Duke Temple, 3rd Base Coach
10 - Eddie Harris, SP
12 - Crespi, Position Unknown
13 - Pedro Cerrano, RF
14 - Van Dyke, Position Unknown
15 - Reyna, SS
16 - Pepper Leach, 1st Base Coach/Pitching Coach
20 - Larson, 2B
21 - Unknown
23 - Graham, Position Unknown
24 - Roger Dorn, 3B
26 - Lindberg, Position Unknown
27 - Camps, Position Unknown
28 - Pearson, Position Unknown
30 - Metcalf/Ward, 1B
33 - Bushnell, SP
34 - Lou Brown, Manager
37 - Stocker, Position Unknown
38 - Tomlinson, LF
39 - Reaves, Assistant Coach
40 - Keltner, SP
41 - Rhoads, Position Unknown
44 - Mosser, Position Unknown
45 - Uknown
47 - Gentry, Position Unknown (Cut in Spring Training)
49 - Winter, Position Unknown
99 - Rick Vaughn, SP
?? - Mitchell Friedman, Position Unknown (See odd notes below)
Charlie Donovan, General Manager
Rachel Phelps, Owner
Harry Doyle, Radio Announcer
Monty (Last Name Unknown), Color Man

ODD NOTES:
1. Jake Taylor's number (#7) is hanging from the rafters on Opening Day (as if the number was retired).

2. Reyna is the shortstop, although it does sound like "Molina" when Harry Doyle says it.

3. The first baseman is always #30. However, Harry Doyle refers to him as Metcalf in one instance and the name on the back of the uniform is actually Ward.

4. "Metcalf" or "Ward" is right-handed throughout the whole movie, except for right after he records the first out in the playoff game. When he runs off the field, he is left-handed.

5. Mitchell Friedman (the guy with no uniform number) is on the team because his name is mentioned when one fan is looking at the newspaper and says his name.

6. The ninth batter in the order controversy: It is not really known who the guy is for sure. Tomlinson hits 9th in the batting order in the playoff game because after he displays his warning track power in the 9th inning, WIllie Hayes comes to bat next. However, during the regular season game where two tribe players score back-to-back while both avoiding the catcher's tag, the first runner is Van Dyke (#14) and the second runner is Willie Hayes. Therefore, it could be that Van Dyke usually batted 9th except for the playoff game (and therefore answers the DH question). BUT, there are still possibilities here...Since we don't know the game situation, Van Dyke could have been the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th batter, or even a pinch runner. We can't tell who else, if anybody, was on base. All we know is that Dorn was the batter that drove them both in.

7. During the playoff game, Camps (#27) and Crespi (#12) are shown in the dugout congratulating Harris after he is relieved by Vaughn AND out in the bullpen when Harris gives up the home run in the 8th inning.

8. After the Tribe wins the playoff game, a fan is holding a sign with Chief Wahoo on it that reads, "Ha Hoo".

9. Keltner (#40) is reminiscent of Ken Keltner, the Indians 3rd baseman that single-handedly ended Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hitiing streak in 1941. The real Keltner actually wore both #8 and #25.

Correction on Odd Note #6: Van Dyke could have only possibly been the 8th or 9th batter, or a pich runner. Since Hayes scored behind him, Van Dyke could have only been as far back as 2nd base, putting him in the 9th spot of the lineup. If Van Dyke was on third and Hayes was on first, Van Dyke would have been in the 8th spot of the lineup.

Correction AGAIN on #6: Van Dyke could have been as high as the 7th spot...worst case scenario, Van Dyke on 3rd, Hayes on 2nd, Taylor on 1st and 2 outs.
