i loved this movie. . .

it reminded me of my days as little miss sunflower. . .those days were terrifying. . .

it also reminded me of the last time i moved to las vegas. . .those days were horrifying. . .

but i wouldn't trade them for anything!

dieser film hat mir gefallen, aus dem Tod eines Menschen konnte mann, was sinnvolles machen.
also aus unseren beschissenen sachen konnen wir auch was nettes tun.

i REALLY liked this movie.
especially Alan Arkin as the foul mouthed, poon chasin', heroin snortin' grandad.
&
Toni Collette always seems to shine in the roles she
chooses.

I realize many of you liked this movie, however I just could not get into it. Summarized the movie was about a child participating in a beauty contest, and mishaps as the disfunctional family trys to get the child to the pageant. When she finally gets there she does a striptease act. "Yawn" Seemed highly inappropriate. Also, the movie is very dry. I actually thought the dryness was part of the turn off. However, lately I saw another dry movie I really liked. So, that wasn't it.

I found this movie to have no positive qualities. I only managed to laugh a couple of times.

Dissapointed

This movie was great. Dry humor with a very touching story of how a family of "losers" sticks together and ends up embracing the fact that they don't fit in. Great music by Devotchka, too.

no *positive qualities* ???
well
i don't know about that
i thought the manner in which this WAY dysfunctional family 'closed ranks'
&
supported each other was VERY positive
&
i laughed throughout ............ especially during the *finale* !!!
yes
yes
YES !!!!!!
when our "Little Miss Sunshine" wannabe does her lurid
striptease (".....she's a very freakyyyyyyyyy girl ......." ;)
well
wasn't that a grand *poke in the eye* to the whole depressing spectre of child beauty contests.

Thanks again, Helmet, for your spot on comments (you helped me out on the "Shaun of the Dead" page). I didn't see that dance number coming at all. Though, once you see it, it makes perfect sense. That Grandpa...crazy guy.

Hey... I had high hope for this movie, but it started out slow and got progressively worse, until it finally got to the ridiculous ending. I at least laughed at the gas station scene. I guess I was just hoping for something better.

haha
yeah
the song she performs to at the end DID come as a surprise to me
after the sound engineer raises an eyebrow while scanning the CD that contains her *choice of music* & asks her who picked THAT song & she replies, "Grandpa" ... well, i was kinda expecting some sort of lame-ass *Grandpa Musik*

i loves this movie

Exactly! I thought, hmm, it's probably going to be some old timer 1940s ditty. Wrong!

I think the reason some people were disappointed was because they were expecting big, goofy laughs and instead they got a quirky drama with laughs interspersed throughout. It's a dramedy, folks. Like life...exaggerated.
