This film, as well as Jean-Pierre Melville's other films (most prominently Le Cercle Rouge), is where John Woo got alot of his ideas not just for The Killer but also for the A Better Tomorrow films, Once A Thief, Hard-Boiled, etc etc. John Woo's nearly homoerotic male relationships are a direct extension of the sort of masculinity and brotherhood Jean-Pierre Melville's criminals and cops shared. >>By Spiff Gary Oldman is brilliant and frightening.
