Discussion: Kill Bill

Just saw it last night and was totally blown away! Its almost like I forgot the amount of style Tarantino puts into his work. Truly a work of genius. Definitely waiting for Vol. II.

>>By william

It looks damn cool, I'll say that much. But what I really want to know is...does this Tarantino flick actually HAVE a plot? ^_^

>>By cute_fluffy_death_thing

i think it was, like most hollywood movies, a adaptation of crouching tiger hidden dragon. I realsie that any creative output relies on inspiration fro0m other influences, but it was a blatant attempt at hollywoodising a movie that obviously broke several conventions in post war film making..

tarrantino is NOT a genius.

>>By dionysus

reminds me somehow....of clockwork orange....

>>By Dreaming

Dionusus is wrong when he says that Tarrantino is not a genius. I think he should be killed with his family. Pulp Fiction was the peak of movie acheivment and it is my beleif that any one who didn't like that movie can go to hell.

>>By Metal Immortal Returns Again

ok, lets try this again...if you're going to disagree with me, tell me why..explain hw I am wrong, how an obvious spin off from crouching tiger hidden dragon can make a director a genius...tell me. Don't reduce Flork to a slugfest. You can attack my family. Thats fine. I don't have much of one anyway. But, for crying out loud, don't be fascist and say that everyone who doesn;'t agree with e should be shot or killed. You sound like george Bush. Oh, god...yeah, it makes sense now..

Kill Bill is a great movie, and I believe Tarrantino is a genius. That being said, there are definate influences in his work. I really don't think Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is one of them. Instead, I propose that both Tarrantino and Ang Lee used similar influences when directing their movies. Tarrantino grew up watching B (Maybe C) Hong Kong action movies starring such people as Sonny Chiba (who plays the sword maker in Kill Bill). Tarrantino's genius comes from his ability to take several genres and incorporate them into a format that is palatable to the american public. He keeps a modern feel on all of his films while paying homage to genres who had their hayday 30+ years ago (See Jackie Brown). He has influenced many more young directors in America than Ang Lee could ever hope too. There are so many Reservior Dogs rip-offs it is nausiating, but none have the charm of the original. If you want to see a real Tarrantino influence, see Martin Scorsese. Just my thoughts. Plus he keeps Michael Madsen in work, who else could pull that off? Thoughts on my comments?

>>By wlubake

PS, that was an unsolicited shot at Bush. He may agree with you on Kill Bill's influences.

>>By wlubake

Bush? ok...lol...point taken...I suppose if you put it that way, he would be a genius...the fact that he incorporates genres to make it palatable to the public. I would have seen that as a skill, a genre artist, a technician. I must say though that film making for the entertainment of the public, however clever and skillfully crafted it is, is less of a demanding task, artistically. Let me rephrase that. to make your craft 'palatable' to the public is not realise the true potential of the medium of your craft, whatever it is, especially if it is merely for entertainment...Umberto eco has written that america is one huge Disneyland. And I see his point. American popular culture is about an escape into the woinderful world of entertainment...and iit is only in America that someone like tarrantino can make it big..

it doesn't mean that I didn't like pulp fiction, mind you. I did, as I have mentioned aerlier on in the posts. But I do question Tarantino's elevation to Genius status.

the word, I think, is a little loosely used.

>>By dionysus

allright. let me rephrase my point.

dionysus, instead of people who don't like pulp fiction, should be killed with their families.

>>By Good King Rufus

by the way, i am metal immortal. don't mean to confuse you all.

>>By Good King Rufus

oh, rufus, that made it so much better, thank you...

>>By dionysus

but look at your sentence again Dufus, I mean rufus, grammatically, it makes no bloody sense...try rephrasing it again..C'mon, go for it...but don;t hurt yoursef !!!

>>By dionysus

YOU MOTHERFUCKERS DON'T EVEN MENTION THE BIG FUCKIN ROLE THE GODDAMN RZA HAS IN THIS TIGHT ASS MOVIE. WHAT UP THO?!!!
come on now, where's the props to prince rakeem???

>>By CALI2COLORADI

somebody get back to me on this quick

>>By CALI2COLORADI

(SILENCE)anyways, wu-tangs' THE RZA/PRINCE RAKEEM had the idea for this movie, then comes tarantino, and rza gets no hype...YOUR THOUGHTS HERE:

>>By CALI2COLORADI

cali...i'm not quite sure i follow...what are you ssaying?, are you saying the kill bill movie was an idea tarrantino borrowed from someone else, or stole from someone else without acknowledging his debt, or what? please...make me understand...

>>By dionysus

For me, the point is; movies, which once were short stories, have become comic books. No longer does any kind of sense matter. The FX are the entire show. The FX are superb, but so what? If a skinny girl can slaughter platoons of warriors, if the warriors are too stupid to use pistols instead of swords, if gravity is no longer a restraint to human motion, then what you have is just a jerk-off comic book.

>>By OLDBOY

TO OLDBOY: CANT U JUST APPRECIATE A GOOD DAMN MOVIE?COME ON...GOOOOOOOOD MOVIEEEEEE, RIGH?
TO DIONYSUS: yeah the rza developed the idea long time ago (id imagine long ago) anyhow no ill feelings toward tarantino or whatever, just saying that the rza needs some props.thats all.w/b if you want!!:)peace

>>By CALI2COLORADI

oh, you mean the GENIUS borrowed this idea? surely, you jest!!!

:)

>>By dionysus

i thought it was amazing, great story line, amazing cinematography a work of genius... not an adaption of crouching tiger at all

>>By joshers

i still don't see why tarantino is a genius...you people are so easily satisfied...

>>By dionysus

Hey Dionysus, guess what? You think your opinoin matters? It doesn't. this site has no purpose because people's opinions don't get you anything. I don't worship directors. I worship certain movies. For example:

Pulp Fiction was the best movie ever. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? That was purley a copy off the Matrix. Although I never saw Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon I will assume it sucked because the previews sucked and our oppinions don't matter. Yet saying Kill Bill was a spin off of a spin off? Keep your shitty opinoins to yourself because they make me dizzy.

Anyone who didn't like Pulp Fiction should be defeated. I'm not a fascist, I'm a loser who posts on a shitty web site.

"Anyone who didn't like Pulp Fiction should be defeated. I'm not a fascist, I'm a loser who posts on a shitty web site."

nobody can say he is not self-aware. As for opinions that don't count, i think your last point proved your point beautifully..

>>By dionysus

Thank you. That's why i wrote it without a hint of sarcasm you dipshit.

I feel that Quentin has made the ultimate exploitation movie.. The only element unused is the Horror film.. From Spaghetti Western, Sword and Sandal, HK Crime Drama's, from the Japanese 'Baby Cart in Peril' series to
Martial Arts films (anyone see Master of The Flying Guillotine?) The plot is classic revenge fantasy, and you really don't need more than that.. If you are looking for some kind of difficult plot line to follow, it is not here, I believe on purpose... If you are looking for a more difficult plot line to follow, look no further than the Matrix... But if you want the most expensive, violent, and bloody exploitation film going Kill Bill rules!!

>>By Diabolik

Crap... I forgot the Anime influence as well (but you all caught that one anyway )

>>By Diabolik

On Quentin ripping people off.... Ok.. because 'Wu Tang' are fans of HK Cinema and wanted to make their own Honk Kong Rip-off doesn't mean that Tarantino stole from them... He stole from Hong Kong... That is fine, as Hong Kong has been stealing from American and Italian cinema for years.. Rob Zombie stole liberally from Wes Craven in making "House of 1000 Corpses"... But it really isn't stealing is it?... Is tribute theft??? discuss... and be nice to eachother.

>>By Diabolik

Wow. That was enlightening. I didn't know the people who said the matrix was hard to follow were serious till just now. Huh..

I'm still right about everything i said.
