I felt like I was at the same position as the guy from Clockwork orange (played by M.McLaren) beeing cured by violent behaviour. So who likes Cubric and has no belly problems this is movie for him/her.

Tenia wasn't killed in the club, his friend was(yeah he lived a long life the bastard).
What do you mean " who was the two guys in the beginning of the movie? >>By liam" ?
If you mean the two guys that lead Marcus and Pierre at the club, well they were just two guys that needed money thats all. Also they new the "girl" that entered with Tenia in the underground passage.

By the way, have you noticed that when Alex was being rapped by Tenia someone entered the tunnel but after a few seconds he left not doing anything to help?(an other bastard!!!)

A very very disturbing movie... but i kind of liked it...

I trully believe that Monica is a Godess, but watching the scene of the rape, made me sick. Tenia is representing all those who think that they communicate with people by using their fist or their dick. I really enjoyed what happened to him, but I have not seen so much violence, in a scene before. In the end of the movie I was really socked

I' french, and I'm proud of Gaspar Noé!
I was afraid to see "Irréversible", but I was wrong.Don't listen or don't read the bad reviews. This movie is a glaring journey into the male nature.Le Ténia is the time-bomb we all have deep inside the darker part of our Soul. The Rectum is where it makes its nest.
When I see this movie, I'm not proud to be a man.All the horrors of this world come from men;that's why Gaspar wanted his movie to take place in a brutal, extreme and all-man world. There's no homophobic idea in all this.
Gaspar Noé uses camera, to throw up his disgust for men, whose victims are always the same:women, children, elderly and all drop-outs of Society.
Don't be afraid of this movie...just be afraid of you!

This is Tomasz from pl.I saw it and cannot compare it to anything else.I was SHOCKED.I did not know the French are up to such images. In Warsaw you can see Baise-moi and they translated the title into Polish:The Rape.Irreversible kicks the ass out thru the throat.

as a writer and young filmmaker, i think we are in the presence of a new thing ... a new way of doing cinema, and noe is telling to all those independent filmmakers NOT TO BE AFRAID of going too far. Our responsability as artist is to show an interpretation of what is outside and inside of us, without compromising anything. If in the future, any imbecile wants to use censorship, we need to understand that the best censorship is indifference. If you don't like it, don't look at it, and shut up!

A film with more tasteless fillers than the cheapest hotdog. Without the annoying cinematography, repetitive, pointless dialogue and two graphically violent scenes, there would be no movie and we would all be better served.

what was the piece of music at the end (beginning) of the movie? had I known credits were not going to be reshown at the end of the movie I would have paid more attention to the beginning of the movie.

I thought I was Marcus got his arm broke and hit on his head by that Tenia, Actually who hit and got hit at the end?
and where is Marcus' friend?
I'm a Chinese and I think it was a very disgusting on the first half of the movie. But I do think it got very good "structure"
And it's kind of racial in this movie.

>>By Stink   (Sunday, 16 Mar 2003 23:26)

1. Marcus hits Tenia friend, the guy in the dark shirt. Tenia wears white(i think)
2. Tenias friend breaks Marcus arm and while he unbuttons his pants...
3. Pierre comes with the well known fire extinguisher and kills him.

Marcus friend, Pierre, is the guy we see in the prisson cell at the very begining of the movie.   (Monday, 17 Mar 2003 15:04)

Taking about sordid... This is an absolutely REPULSIVE movie, and fortunately the only one of this kind I have ever seen (or almost, as I walked out after 30 minutes). It was like the worst nightmare I have ever experience, and I have experienced a lot, believe me.
I walked out because, by just being witness to this monstrosity, I felt like an accomplice to the violence, and maybe condoning it.

Who were the two men at the beginning of the movie??

>>By dodds   (Monday, 24 Mar 2003 06:09)

Who was killed if it wasn't Le Tenia?? Who killed him, Pierre or Marcus??

>>By dodds   (Monday, 24 Mar 2003 06:10)

I was under the impression that the two men at the beginning of the film were just a couple of no hopers who lived in an apartment above the Rectum. The character didn't look like Pierre. Am I wrong? If it was a prison, it was quite a nice cell really.

Thanks for the reply, but I have since discovered that the baldish, fat man who said he had slept with his daughter was the main character from a previous movie by Gaspard Noe and it was an inside joke apparently to use him at the beginning of this movie. Was la Tenia actually killed or did he get away with it??

>>By dodds   (Wednesday, 26 Mar 2003 01:57)

Does anyone think that Alex survived the attack?? Perhaps there will be a sequel..........anyone going to see it??

>>By dodds   (Wednesday, 26 Mar 2003 02:00)

I don't think that the real point is if Alex survived the attack physically. The point is that this experience, if she survived, will be irrivercible and will follow her for the rest of her life.
Personaly i hope she didn't survived. If something like that happend to me i wouldnt want to survive. Rape, physical or mental, is one of the worst things can happen to a human.

I never understood why, after Tenia "finished" with the rape, did he had to beat her? I couldn't accept and couldn't understand it, still can't.

Also i can't understand why this bastard that entered the passage didnt help Alex. Tenia was on her and it was easy to beat the s**t out of him!

Damn....

>>By Nagumo   (Friday, 28 Mar 2003 16:06)

Tenia beat Alex after the rape as the dessert to his main course so to speak. Rape is physical violence, the two go hand in hand, I mean the rape and the beating, so it is understandable that he would beat her. He regarded her as nothing but a piece of meat, a whore, whatever words he used to put her down.

The music at the end of the movie (right before the strobes) is Beethoven's 7th symphony in A Major.

Though completely horriffic, this movie was incredibly well done. The director is a genious. He fooled with my perception of time so much that after the movie, I felt like I was walking backwards. I would say to anyone that is thinking about seeing this movie, "Be prepared to witness the most dispicable acts imaginable, be prepared to be philosophically and psychologically transformed, be prepared to cry and vomit, be prepared to hate men and hate the world."

>>By B   (Tuesday, 8 Apr 2003 19:04)

immediately after i've seen it,i felt eager to find out other opinions about it,because the shock i experienced needed some explicitation!a naturalist masterpiece in cinemathography that can be compared with zola's works-come as no surprise the fact that the director is French!technically, the camera is very ingeniuos, the irreversebility of time is rendered by great travelling techniques!all in all,a great experience!looking forward to hear from noe

Saw it last night, thought it was a great movie....

The guy in the tunnel didn't help simply because he didn't know it was a rape. She wasn't screaming at that time she was kind of moaning. The man in the tunnel most likely thought it was some hooker doing business.

The opening scene had nothing to do with the rest of the movie other then to provide a jumping off point.

The two men running around The Rectum were Pierre and Marcus, and it was Pierre that ended up killing The Tenia's friend. Tenia himself was unharmed.

Being from the United States I do have one question about the drug Tenia kept sniffing... I don't know it. Anyone know what he would be sniffing? I suppose I am asking those of you from France because in all my Drug Days in Los Angeles I never sniffed anything like that except maybe glue.
