One of the best films ever!

If you check in Wikipedia, I think he searched in Hungary (when he met the Isabella Rossellini character). Austria of course. The Czech Republic - where Beethoven was supposed to meet his Immortal Beloved. Perhaps, other places.
One of my favorite scenes in film is the last one in this movie, with no dialogue, set to the Ode to Joy. The violent stepfather, the implication of sexual abuse, the longing for escape, the solace of nature and solitude, the escape into the woods, the stars . . . but I am going on too long. Perhaps, though, I like it so much because of the music. Nothing like a kick-ass soundtrack to make a movie better.
