We are now studying these possibilities; we could potentially correct all sorts of immune and protien defieceincy diseases. Lack of perfection in the gene pool is merely a flaw. If you have down syndrom you are genetically infererior. In the same way, if you are stupid, or ugly, or slow, etc.- these are all controlled by inferior genes. If we gain the power to correct these problems, and thus improve the entire human race, we would only be doing what is one of man's ultimate goals- to make the world a better place. >>By hess Gatica was not only about the "what if" of gene manipulation, but simply about what it takes. To me, its one of my all time favorite movies. My favorite scene is when they are having thier final race at the end. The one brother is astounded and asks "how did you do it?" And he says.."I never saved anything for the way back". I think that does it for me. It personifies that feeling perfectly of when you feel soo passionatly about something that you are beyond devoted to it. You would do ANYTHING for it. I don't know, I can't think of many movies that convayed that feeling as well as that movie did. I think we all crave to have something in our lives that is THAT meaningful. I hope that one day we are able to use genetic modification. Even if you belive it's wrong to do it I still think that you would enjoy the movie! I really enjoyed it. >>By kat if you view this movie through it's metaphors,you will realize that the main charachter achieves sucses not through his incredible journey. which he did concher but by the smille lady luck offers him in the end. the true beauty in this film lies in the strugle the main character goes through in order to achieve his objective only to find out in the end the objective was his for the taking from the very start. Oh did i mention ethan found his true love as well. very seldom does the insparation of the human spirit manifests itself through film. >>By oddysys WOW. Im amazed that like 50 people wrote in and no one mentioned that the name of the movie is GATACA. if this was insignificaant i could forgive you, but they are all letters that are found as abbreviations of chemical mnames in the human gene structure (A,T,C,G). as it is, i forgive you anyway. it was a good movie tho. kind of a cliche look at futeute societal oppression, similar in themeand substance to many a short story written 70 years ago, with a little more scientific falderol thrown in.
