I wonder how many people saw this film ... Not all that many since I'm the first one here. Or is it because there's a sharp criticism on American culture (or rather: human culture in general) in it that people don't like it? I thought it was brilliant. Like being shown the last bag of sweets you ate was poisoned ...

lars likes to painfully drag you throught the dirt but its all for good reason. nothing like turning a character inside out, but a whole town - a real achievment in wrting. serves up the ugly truth about the common man in french existentialist (sartre and camus) fashion.

I like Von Trier a lot, but I thought this was going to be another Dogme film, and didn't really run out to see it until I found it at my local library the other day. That said, if I had known it was going to be anything remotely like it is I would've had gone to see it in the theater. It's amazing how stylized this film is, especially since they didn't have to resort to camera tricks and flashy editing to accomplish that effect. What a cast, too.
