"I carried a water melon"
Since I was young Ive loved this movie.
Yet, the other day I was watching my own copy of it and realised that it can be pretty corny at times... Don't get me wrong - I still love it - but you have to admit, its a bit cheesy.
The 'ga-goom' part for instance. (Where baby has to feel the beat on Johny's heart). Even the song Patrick sings 'She's Like the Wind' is pretty corny. I always thought it was beautiful, but just listen to the lyrics and keep an open mind. And the last scene... Our hearts race there, but really its just like a corny musical.
Nevertheless, if this is a cheesy, corny movie, then I must be cheesy and corny as well. Its brilliant!

I happened to like this movie, but i don't think it has something to do with 'corny or cheesy.' Yet yes, i think love is a part of life, and i like dancing, and i think i'd be touched by some (dance-)partner if she'd take my hand to her heart to feel the beat i have to dance on. I do not see the corny of that. Yet there are some scenes i do find almost too horrible to see. I feel my stomach turning upside down when the son of the hotelmanager tries to win Baby's love by telling her his 'incredible' successes of his career, or the extreme naivete when Baby's sisters' practicing for her big performance, yek. For the rest it's just another movie about two people who fall in love in a story with a victorious happy end. The story is a cliche, admitted. But i think it's not corny or cheesy at all.
