hi guys, there was always talk that Forsyth based his book about the Jackal on a real incident: this is true. It actually went down in '62, not '63 and the hunt for the Jackal lasted from a friday evening, all the next week, and was officially wound-down on the following wednesday, about 12 days? Never was any good at maths. This is the time the police and SIS were running around in BROMLEY, S.E. London, harrassing everyone who ever knew him, about 2,500 people, of both sexes suprisingly, he was gay but 'swung both ways'. They even took our fingerprints; asked why, was told 'orders', by a very annoyed technition, as every top expert in GB was involved, leaving none left to do other crimes. there were about 3-400 men involved in the hunt, sleeping in the local schools, which were on holidays at the time. They found my fingerprints in 'every room but his bedroom'. I knew him you see, his name really was Alexander James Quentin Duggan, 'Mad Jimmy', or just plain Jimmy. I'd known him since I was 5, he taught me English (I'm half Norwegian, we lived in Oslo until we moved back to Blightly). 'The Jackal' is actually a medal given him by the enemy, the Mau Mau, when he served in Kenya as a sniper under Roger Moore, no less (007). They arrested Roger too, on the set for 'The Saint', as they were filming! He was not amused... there is a copy of that film somewhere, be nice to see it! Roger was a Guards Officer to his fingertips and knew how to swear! I met him after he was released and on his way back up to London with Robert Hardy (the famous vet series?) who also served under Roger. I spent the weekend with The Jackal just before he left for the De Gaulle job, saw the suitcases (Luis Vitton pigskin). I knew of the crutches, he had them under the Chesterfield sofa. He made them himself, and probably had the rifle made at the Beckenham Technical College by a gay teacher friend. Didn't know about the rifle at the time, but they were very heavy crutches and unwieldy. he was so strong he didn't notice! All this came at the wrong time for me, I was also involved in the Profumo Affair, with Steven Ward (I was his honoury son) and Christine Keeler (my first girlfriend) and Mandy Rice-Davies (my second. Knew her for over a year, lovely girl, would have married her with no regrets, but she was in love with Peter Rachmann. It's a complicated story). Jimmy had kept out of it, being busy, but he knew what was going on. I'm the cause of that scandal. An incident occured and I tried to kill somebody 'very important' and failed. I thought I was covered as me and Dusty Springfield had a document that would hold the wolves off, but he was (is) quiet mad, and you can't reason with such people and he had to get his own back and somehow Steven's operation must have been noticed and we were stopped. Steven wasn't a russian spy, he was spying on the British aristocracy for Roger Hollis and Lord Marks (Marks and Spencers) who was funding the op. I was recruited to help Steven. We were looking for a family, a dynasty, that flourished clandestinely in Britain, using sex and blackmail to get info. With all the fuss it was not a good time for me and I think I'm only alive today because of that document and the fact that I left the country, never to return. I never saw The Jackal again, but he was eventually caught, tried at the Old Bailey (in somebody else's name, ask Bob Denard, he might know it) and jailed for 10 years. he was released after 5 and was said to have been found hanged from a light-cord in a boarding-house in Lewisham. The police said suicide, but how do you torture yourself, then hang yourself with your hands tied behind your back? Funny goings on indeed... I've been writing it all down these last 20 years, must leave a record of what really was going on...it will shock you beyond imagining...
