Discussion: Calamity Jane

The relationship between the central female character and the male characters and whether it matters that this central role is female. Would the movie be fundamentally different with a male 'hero' instead? Do you think that female viewers respond differently to a female 'hero'? Do male viewers?

Of course the movie "Calamity Jane" would be different if it didn't have a female hero. It would no longer be a movie about Calamity Jane. It's like asking if the movie "Erin Brocovich" would be different if it didn't have a female lead.

Well said Nicky. What would be the point in doing a movie about Calamity Jane if the character was played by a man. It defeats the purposse of the movie. Calamity Jane was a real person, You canot change the gender of someone in history in a movie. Dont be so Ludicrous.
