It's about William Wallace, a medieval Scotsman who leads the Scots against the English. Wallace was a real person, but there are a lot of legends about him. It's hard to know what it is really true. I liked this movie, but it's entertainment not history.
Here's some information about William Wallace: http://www.britannia.com/bios/wallace.html

By the way, Vovin, it was the English, not the British Wallace was fighting against.
Three hundred years later, all the Scots, English and Welsh became British, so we are playing for the same team now (When we feel like it!)

Patriotism is something we ENGLISH pride ourselves in, but when we see a film like Braveheart, we sympathise even support Wallace. It's an absolutely brilliant piece of film, where Gibson is brilliant both as an actor and director. It's a masterpiece.

I Like the movie, not just because of the good script, direction , locations, great dialogues and character portrayal of Mel Gibson..but most of all for the underlying theme....of Freedom. How important is freedom to us, who enjoy it so easily, without even knowing what price has it come for those who have been denied this most fundamental right of all. We are all free, to do ,to be , to think as we want...and this movie brings forth a strong message which tells us about the value of freedom.

Braveheart is a brilliant film, although i felt really sad when Hamish's dad died...the old guy kicked ass...

Do you know that in real life the princess of france was actually a young child when William Wallace was around so i dont think they really got in on in real life and if they did thats sick! Alot of this film isnt based on historical fact but nonetheless its a brilliant film!

Well look at iit this way, there was 2 fairly big armies, then there was a small portion of 1 army, so its safe to assume a couple of thousand dead....So many decapitations...

Yes, Great film and fantastic cinematography, hitorically inaccurate but theme right, as is gruesome ending to Mel/Wallace-but this happened to a lot of ordinary Englishmen in those days. One thing is true- intersquabbling among the Scots ,as always, meant that Edinburgh is not the British capital.
