I need SUBTITLES!!!!

I still failed to understand the movie completely on the first go.
Excellent movie.
pig vomit: Such kind of movies are not for the bang-bang straight-story no-thinking american audience.
Whats the challenge in viewing a film that is so easy to understand? (like matrix)

If the colour world is the real one, why did the dead guy dissapear in the end?
weird.
And whats the meaning with the dog appearing on the posters?

This movie is really great, though if you really get into the story you'll be depressed ;)
Cause its a full dramatic and splendid vision of what we COULD be, losers of a hardcore game. The comparison with matrix is inevitable, but the script of avalon has been written 1 year before the matrix one, and even if the background idea (another reality) is near, Avalon blows away matrix in every way.
Its a personnal advice, and anyway their not playing in the same category, matrix aim a large public wich just want to distract, avalon is more about reflexion, and is clearly less accessible.
finally, I give a special thank to Kenji Kawai, as usual he made a ROYAL MASTERPIECE with the avalon soundtrack, it is the kind of music that makes you have shivers in the back.

If you have seen "Being John Malkovitch" 10 times, watch it again one more time instead of losing your time with Avalon. There is no sense to do such a film. I think there was the biggest lack of budget of the cinema history; if you like a scene in Avalon, be happy, you'll watch it ten more times before the end of the movie. (the "new rose hotel" 's syndrome).
It's really bad because you got really good ideas in this movie, but all of thid is so boring...
And for those who are happy because they say that they understood the movie, just one comment: bravo, ready for the Olympic Brains Games.

There is a lot a really bad movies, and a few good, but a movie isn't necessarily good when it's not the usual love-FBI-explosions-Boum-KissMe movie, it needs more than not-to-be-for-mass to be good.

Avalon was a great movie right up until the last 5 or so minutes, when the whole story fell apart. I loved the lighting, camerawork and music in that movie, and although some of the scenes could have been cut a little shorter, its much nicer to have scenes be slightly too long then have there be a camera change and explosion every 5.5 seconds. Good movie.

Indeed not for brain dead American's .... who all love action adventior movies ... where they don't have to think . My advise,... try some art, like this movie! Good work, great movie

Great movie, with excellent light, photography and actors...that kind of movie can't let you indifferent.
You just love it (as I) or you just hate it.
That's one of the cult film characteristic.

I want a sequel... what was up with that girls (the ghost) smile at the end ? up till then it made some sense - like someone said previous.. 'It gives u alot of ideas' - well, it has ... i hope the writers/producers have had enough time to think about stitching up the loose ends that are begging for more - and this time PLEASE DO NOT use idle star wars lightsaber sounds for computor screen flashes and the like - or the falling text in the title screen just like in the Matrix - this was not simply the orange version ...

Saw Avalon again, this time it was on Showtime. I just love a story about family and the history that go with a family. I agree with the positive statements above. I would love to see a sequel.

Hi Loved the movie cos of the visuals, music, etc. Admit it's a bit lenghty (most boring scene awarded entering Class S-A...).
Looking for a computer interface like in the movie...

I finaly figured out what the movie could mean.

Its about playing an illegal game, the entire movie we are watching the game. Remember special class a was called 'real

class'? It is just another level in the game, but with altered rules as higher lvls demand more skills. Whats the goal of the

game? The legendary island of avalon where you will become immortal, the port to avalon is hidden in a very demanding lvl

called real class. (Remember that the 'barkeeper' said that an endless program wouldnt be a game anymore? She is talking

about avalon where you will be forever in the game, but as the legends say : avalon is beautifull so its worth the effort for

Ash).

The bishop's role is a kind of guideline for the very skilled players , he follows them and gives them a choice to find

avalon if they realy want to. All the warnings from the gamemaster are based on this , he said that arthur never returned

from avalon ,thus ash cant return from avalon when she enters it. Thats what murphy warned her for : dont follow the shine ,

this is the world where you belong to.

This world would mean the game where you can end it at any point, and return back to normal. The shine is eternal and no

returning is possible. Bishop stated that you cant harm innocents or the game is over .. : that gives you a clue that class

real was endable at any point.

But (!) Class real was created for the very skilled gamers who were disappointed with real reality in some way (thats why

they became so very addicted to a game in the first place) , they were given a choice to reach it that far and live a happy

life in their created world. (The un-returned) Murphy said it: 'why cant this reality be MY reality '

The entire movie is a quest for avalon , and ash blinded by the beautiness in it (the dog is showed on an AVALON poster!

Thats all she realy loved) makes the big step and is a non-returner forever. Its virtualy reality, but a virtual reality can

overpower real reality if you just believe in it or if real reality did something horrible to you.

If you look very close the similarities to a game (as we know it) are brilliant. You start in a very low leveled world where

everything looks exciting but empty, by the time you reach the endboss the game world changed to something great and

marvelous, and lots of things are going on.

The nine sisters are the programmers who created avalon and gave ash the chance to be on their side in avalon, where there

are no real gaming rules, only marvelous things. They gave her a choice to join an endless program with no further end.. :

die in real life but live in eternal avalon.

The deeper plot of this movie is a question about the future, what if games become virtual reality escape pods, what if some

godly programmer gave you a choice to stay in the game and leave all your misery behind, what if that same man programmed the

ultimate quest .. : Avalon. Would you ignore it or be tempted by it? Its like the holy grail .. something that extraordinary

can be very blinding in the right persons eyes and makes you forget about old values (warmth, tenderness). Ash's dog was her

holy grail, hidden in avalon.

ps. sorry for my english! :)
