Alexander

Forum

I went to see Alexander today, because I thought it couldn't possibly be as bad as the critics said, well, I was wrong.
Oliver Stone, what were you thinking, were you thinking at all?
This is one big rummage-sale of a movie. Pick out the stuff you like and leave the rest for garbage.
Plus points
The always-watchable Colin Farrell, even with the blond extensions.
Angelina Jolie mad queen.
The battle scenes, particularly the elephants.
Anthony Hopkins.

I didn't think it was a very "gay" story, not what some had suggested, when Alexander did have the bare-flesh bit, it was a woman in the bed, and his one male kiss was when he was half-mad, drunk, and goaded into it by his drunk friends.

Go and see it if you like the plus points, if you don't, don't bother.
It seems that Stone shot hours of this film and threw away the good bits. It needs re-editing, tidying up and polishing to make it even halfway good. Hope the DVD is better than this theatrical release.

Oh my god! longest movie ever! Oliver Stone whyyyyyyyyyyyy? Even Two extremely hot guys like Farrell and Leto couldn't make me watch this movie again! The only good thing about this movie was the battle scenes they're shot very well but there's one thing that really put me off throughout the film. Why, oh why, did Collin Farrell and Val Kilmner have Irish accents whilst angelina jolie sounded like she came from transylllvania? Ok i know Colin Farrell's irish but hey so am i and i can even do some different accents! i mean an american accent would have even worked better! UUURRRGGGHHHH just talkin about this movie is gettin me frazzled again so i'll leave now!

I simply liked the movie...I liked most of the small details that stone used in the movie... from the eye of the eagle, the colors till the battles...
I liked mostly what Hopkind-Ptolemeus was saying at the end of the movie: It is us who kill the dreamers... and for me that's the meaning of all the movie...
I don't think is a gay story... It was well-known at that time that men were having several relationships with them, and they were still getting married and having children. According to historians in the Macedonian army there was a close group called "the friends", that was very close to the king too. 'The Friends" were sharing everything amog them, even sexual relation...
Also, in the movie we see even Philip to have a close relationship with Klit, the guy that Alexander killed.
Then, it was really nice of Stone that he was using a tipical way of expression as it was in those times...that's way the dialogue of the movie was a little theatral and dramatic...

Jolie was playing a typical Yllirian woman...but she was to cold and calculated.... although beautiful...

there were small details that make me not want to waste the money to buy it like the fact it is historically inacurate but it is an average to good movie for its genre

Why can't anyone just accept that hollywood will never produce a historically accurate film, and watch this kind of thing as a film, not as a documentary?

if they were not going to stick to the story line they might as well have added some funky aliens shooting lasers out of their ass at least it would have been comical

I saw the film today; it was brilliant.

MetalBlade that's a really silly attitude to take (probably get the post deleted for that) - read a text book.

i loved the movie. I'll tell you why: Val Kilmer, Colin Farrell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jared Leto, Angelina Jolie, Oliver Stone!!! Should i say more? the directing was brilliant, the acting was brilliant! and in addition to the fact that actors were extremely good, they were extremely beautiful as well! God, i don't give a fuck if it's not hystorically accurate! but it is actually!
