I agree that it is based around our basic fears, but it also deals with living a life based on material and vanity versus a life of non tangible happiness.

It's about many things, but the thing about this film that gets to me is the concept of the conscience/memories getting in the way of happiness. Cesar treats Nuria like garbage and his so-called best friend, Pelayo, like a second class acquaintance. He then falls for Sofia, who won't give him a second look after his accident. Then he signs his contract with L.E., kills himself, and expects the company to put him in a dreamland paradise. Problem is is that he cannot completely forget the horrible things that he did, or the horrible things that happened to him shortly before he died, and these thoughts/memories haunted him......A very sad film for me.....

we've been watching it in our spanish class, but we haven't seen the ending yet, should be good? i think it's a great film, i think it tries to make you remeber how lucky most of us are.

i dont think ppl shud be allowed to give the ending away to abre los ojos cos then its ruined. by the way does penelope rly have to show her boobs??? i think not. ive only seen half of it cos my spanish teacher wont let us see the rest of it.and its pure torture!!!! especially now since that dude above me gave away the ending thanks alot mdgross

i think the title "open your eyes" is exactly what the film is about....we should open our eyes and see whats really there, not a disfigured face, or a paradise dream...but the truth and we should accept it.
