WHo plays blanche in the movie?

>>By babysbitr

"This was the weirdest play I have ever seen. I hated it!! The only good part about it was the incledibly hot Marlon Brando! Tennessee Williams, however, must have been in a poor state of mind to have written such a horrid play!!!"

i believe it is one of the most profound plays ever written. it explores the reality of man his hopes, fears and dreams

The first time I watched this movie I hated it. How could such a deep and strong character let herself be defeated, 'she should have been stronger!' I told myself. But it affected me so much I could'nt stop thinking about Blanche, Stella and Stanley, so I picked up the play, and read the text and discovered that I had'nt hated it at all. On the contrary, I had loved it, it had moved me, it had touched me profoundly. I had felt such a deep sympathy for Blanche, who reminded me so much of me that I had rejected the play, because it cut too close to the bone. When I saw her tragic end I rejected the play, but I could not forget it.The play with its vivid characters has not left me yet. Williams tells a tale of desire-which can be so much more over whelming than love. A desire for a man, a desire for a woman, a desire for a more fulfilled life. a desire to build, a desire to destroy. A desire for a way out, to be free...

I loved the movie it was great it showed passion as both characters struggled and through the movie you guessed about what is happening so you have sex ,violence, and mystery

A great play and movie. Kate, if you knew ANY thing about Williams you would be able to understand the play a bit better. His sister was Blanche and his mother was Stella and his father was Stanely. Well, based upon anyway. William's sister was sent to a looney bin, just like Blanche, for claim that her father had raped her. And his mother, just like Stella, agreed to her being sent there. Williams was also a homosexual and living in the 50's which explains that part about Blanche's dead husband.

I feel that one should read the script before watching the play. the expressionist devices take the reader into the minds of the characters and hence give reasons behind the characters actions. the play displayed a harsh sense of reality showing that 'Desire' can lead one in two directions- to passion or destructon.
Williams has captured the human condtion perfectly in, what i would call, a masterpeice.

i think that stanly, whilst the rape of blanche was extreme, was the most humane and understandable character in the play. blanche thouroughly annoyed me and despite williams' message that magic is just as important as reality i believe magic can be found in reality. because its rare, makes it all the more precious.

I thought that the actual written play was ok. Not too hard to understand and it kept me interested. But, if you wanna talk about the actual movie, there was no possible way it could be boring. I thought all the charater were well acted out. And Marlon Bando YUMMMM. Just if I were his age durin that time I would just.... But anyways I have absolutly no negative comments about the play or the movie. 5 stars for both

On the Contrary, Williams said, "i am Blanche",
Blanche has no home.
Blanche is past her prime.
Blanche is accostomed to the fullfillment of her desires, however small or petty.

It is the gluttonous nature of Blanche's desire that keeps her weak and unable to 'start over' Stanley is the primal force, the desire itself that has so many times conqured Blanche. He would have been the star of the play, until Williams refocused his emphasis. In life, sometimes people are weak, sick and defiled. the tragedy comes when you must accept that their autonomy is gone and their beauty forsaken.

Jane needs to get a life, and Kate needs to have more understanding, otherwise she will not see past the exterior projection of the central characters, and will not develop the sense for the interior elements and denouncements in plays focus. Such as its themes; desire, death, madness/fantasy. Blanches madness formed by her husbands and families death and emphasised by her drinking problem, and loneliness - combined drive Blanche to her insanity. To think that desire is self destructive is n a view of many contemparory writers, however desire can also be shown to be controlled and used to develop the love between two characters, i.e. Stella and Stanley, as these two characters are shown to counterbalance each others desire's and create a mutual unity.

This is the first time I have seen and as a class we are not through with it. I think so far it is a great movie and that black and white just adds to the whole movie.

I have never seen the movie but i want to mainly because I don't want to read the book but it is mandatory for my class. I want to know if there are any pieces of advice you can offer me about the basis of the story. It would be kindly appreciated. (Maybe like a story outline or a summary). Also I'd like to know if the movie covers the basis of the story so that I don't have to read the book if it is possible. If the movie and the book are alike in the major notions, then I'd rather just watch the movie!!
Thanx
